I'm looking for face mask or balaclava recommendations. I currently have a cheap mesh like one. I can't stand the feeling of the moisture against my skin that gets trapped by any I have used. Figured with this mesh one, it wouldn't hold as much moisture but it does. Is there a good solution for this or is this just a part of using such a deal?
I prefer paint. But also have the Sitka fanatic hoody with the built in face mask. It's an awesome piece of gear.
Many times I end up running errands after hunting so I prefer not to go the face paint route. You guys recommending something specific, do you still get the moisture trapped against your skin? I don't want to go spend money on something that I will be the same as what I have. If they all trap moisture, I will skip spending the money and use what I have.
I've never had a problem with moisture in a facemask, but I also haven't worn them that much. The Sitka fanatic hoody has snug hood you pull over but it's still loose enough to pull moisture away. The facemask is in the back of the hood and you just put it over your head. The mask part can easily be pulled down if need be.
I use a polypro military baclava from amazon.com for 7-8$ warm and works good can use over head or just neck
LOL that made me laugh for real. A guy in my dual sport motorcycle group always calls a balaclava baclava and I laugh every time. I'm pretty simple . I prefer a neck gator to a balaclava for hunting because it is easier to move down out of the way. I use a fleece beanie and fleece neck gator in the cold. I know I look like an Under Armour commercial but I got it all as gifts one year LOL.
Speaking of Sitka... I see MidwayUSA is running a pretty good deal on it right now. $50 gift card when you spend $250 $100 gift card when you spend $500 $250 gift card when you spend $1000 Just wish I could find a Sitka dealer that would just discount the apparel when you buy a lot of it. Seams like all dealers have the same prices.... I can't stand fixed pricing models. It's very non-American way of doing business.
If what you have is not well ventilated at the mouth and nose, get a pair of scissors and make cutouts. Especially if you wear glasses, doing so will greatly reduce fog on your lenses.
Years ago I used to have one that was actually made to accommodate your nose. Was open where your are nostrils are (but nose covered) and being I am nose breather, this was perfect being it allowed moisture to travel away and not be caught. I haven't seen anything line this recently. I have this light mesh one and a fleece neck garter type and both hold the moisture from breathing. I think I will make a little cut where my nose is but the one is loose enough that I am not sure it will help. I'll try it and see before I begin checking these recommendations out.

I use it for x-country skiing and hiking when it is sub-zero. This photo is -24 windchill around -40.
I bought an under armour one a few years ago during turkey season. It's light, loose fitting mesh. I like that it fits loosely, only downside is that it does nothing to keep you warm
I have been using the Endurskin Balaclava from BPS for the last 7 years. Works very good! I think they run around $15 and they work really well for scent control. It keeps you from sweating and helps keep your face warm during cold days in the stand.
I've got a cheap pull over thing. It's more like a long sock in Mossy Oak. Thin but ok since it's hot where I hunt. Sitka makes nice stuff but usually expensive. Don't do the face paint. Prefer not to look like the Ultimate Warrior in the stand. I know most guys just wear face paint to give a little contrast but it's a far cry from how I was taught to use camo in the Army. I've never seen anyone do it right.
