Come to think of it I have not, unless you count Taco Bell as a Mexican restaurant.

I have never seen a Mexican restaurant charge for chips and salsa and was surprised when I said can we get some the lady looked at me and said you didn't order them. I asked if they charged for chips and salsa and she said yes. I ordered them but when we were done I thought about telling her with as bad as the food was (3/4 of what we ordered went in boxes for bear bait) they should definitely give the chips and salsa for free

No,and the good ones keep the chips and salsa coming. I think if I was at a Mexican restraunt and they wanted to charge for chips and salsa I'd get up and walk out.

Just remember nothing is free so one way or another you are paying for them.

There are a few uppity places that serve all organic that charge for chips and salsa. The others bring it out for free. The uppity ones are above my life style so don't go much. Besides I like the cheap stuff better. Least I know what half that is.

At least they didn't bring them to you automatically then charge you. I'd be pissed.

They probably charge for ice tea refills too...;)

Apart from Chipolte which really isn't Mexican (shocker, I know), I can't recall any place I've eaten at that charges for chips and salsa. But as pointed out, you're paying for them any way even if they aren't itemized on the bill.

If my wife (first generation American) heard you say that, she would have you over for dinner, make you eat your words, and then make you eat her abuela's cast iron frying pan for dessert. Just sayin...

I didn't say it was not good food, simply pointed out that there are not 5 star gourmet mexican restaurants.
