Hey guys!!! Im excited as I can be!! Saturday at exactly 5:59 et I shot my first ever deer with a bow...it also happens to be the biggest deer I have ever killed and it is also the only deer after hunting over 20 years that I have ever killed that I believe to be suitable for "the wall". I know he doesn't really compare to a lot of yalls but he is a personal accomplishment for me. I double lunged him at less than 20 yards!!!! This is me and my wife with him. ill have more pictures of him up soon that I took in the field after tracking him bout 60ish yards. but those pictures are still on my hunting partners camera
I shot at a doe and missed her. Found my arrow completely clean. Mechanical head hadn't even opened lol
ok...here is the story. Before season opened up I did some scouting and found where some deer had been crossing. I knew of a path that went into the woods and turned left to a secluded field...that has beans in it. well the path keeps going straight but is grown up more because it is just a dead end and is not used much. so I figured that is where the bigger bucks would be. so I set up my camera and found a big 8 and big 10. well I set a ladder up bout 15 yards off the trail that I had pictures of them crossing on went in Saturday and it was raining and windy and I text my hunting partner "im almost tempted to walk bedding area lol would never hear us lol" I sent that text at 5:58 I put my phone back in my shirt pocket and looked up and saw his horns sticking out from behind a small pine that is grown up in the path. my heart skipped a beat and I saw he was high and has some mass I had my bow laid in my lap with my release already hooked.....he walked out from behind the pine.....looked my way...so I avoided eye contact with him (I dunno if this helps but I always do it if they look in my direction) and then he looked down the path the other direction so I stood my bow up.... after that....he looked back my direction so I avoided eye contact again and waited until he looked down and started across the path again and got behind another small pine....I took that moment that he couldn't see me to draw....I lined up my sites and got everything lined up.... he stepped out from behind that tree....I put my 20 yard pin low behind his left shoulder (he was going from right to left) and released.... when I shot I heard it smack him and immediately saw the cut right where I wonted it to go....he jumped and kicked a bunch and took off further down the path..since it was raining good and I knew I had a great shot....we didn't wait too long (bout 10-15 mins) to go tracking him so we wouldn't lose our blood to the rain. got good blood and found the arrow broadhead down in the ground (don't know how because it was not a pass thru shot???) bout 15 yards behind where he was when I shot him.....got a good blood trail but it was a little difficult to track because of the rain....we would only be able to find what trail he went down sometimes because of a single drop of blood.... tracked him for bout 45 mins and found him on one of the multiple trails in the area about 60ish yards away from the shot site....when I was dressing him out I discovered that I had got both lungs with the shot :-) im using a Mathews no-cam HTR.....with blazer veined gold tip hunter 340 spine arrows......with rage 2 blade chisel tip broadheads.......iq ultra with retina lock site.....trophy ridge whisker biscuit.....truball release
Congrats man! I hope I can get something half that size this season. So far my season is off to a bad start but that's hunting right. Just gotta keep at it though.
