Sounds like we will be chopping corn this week, so I am hoping I can get done with work early one night to hunt. Otherwise it'll be close to two weeks til I can hunt at home again. Leave Friday for SD! Cannot wait!

Went out last night with my pastors son. Saw a beautiful 10 point. Couldn't close the 600 yards tho lol. Sitting in a stand overlooking a cut crp field. Hoping to get him his first Iowa buck! He's used to those small West Virginia deer lol.

I really should start applying for an Iowa tag. I have a standing invitation from a member on here to hunt with him. I can't imagine what those deer look like. I'm used to our small Tennessee deer. :)

I appreciate that. How long does it usually take for a non-resident to get drawn for a tag?

About 3 or 4 years for my unit. Unit 5 is very sought after.

After my last sit, I went back the next day to move a treestand 30 yards West to cover a ditch crossing the deer were using. I put up my climbing sticks, my lifeline then pulled the stand up and put it in place. I stepped onto the stand and the first thing I always do with a new stand is stomp my foot on the back to make the stand settle and bite into the tree. At the stomp, one of the cables that connects the platform to the main part of the treestand snapped. The other cable held so I didnt take a tumble but kind of scary. I was harnessed in, but its a good reminder to check your stands carefully. My stands don't stay out year round and this one had been checked over before being placed the first time a month ago. Wear your harnesses guys.

Man glad you are alright. I bet that was scary! Tfox had both cables break this past week also. He said you couldn't even tell they were rusted because of the cable covers.

I think that's the exact problem. Moisture gets behind that plastic and just sits there and we have no idea its rusting out.

Thanks guys! He loves to hunt but had nowhere to go since they just moved to town. When I found out he was still only 15, I started planning on how to get him on deer during youth season. It was a lot of fun

Good for you...and him. The smile says it all. Nice if you to take time for him.

I was out this morning and between the heat and massive acorn crop its been tough. Acorns are great but when every dang oak has them...its tough going.
