How many times do you guys check your cameras. I hunt basically in my backyard, so its a very short walk and its the suburbs, so I check my cameras once a week. I would check them everyday if it wouldn't hurt anything. But after all, our goal is to kill deer, not take pictures right?
Mine usually go from December to May without getting checked. Then May to July. Then every 3 weeks or so. However, I'll check them on my way to my stand a few times a week during the season...I'm gonna be in there anyways, right? I only have cameras on one property with a field full of clover. My other properties are strictly timber so it's too hard to check them without disturbing the property and hard to pinpoint where they're moving unless it's the pre-rut/rut.
I dont have any cameras out this year as im on public land....but in past i would check when i got to stand in hunting season in the off season i would try and go every 2 weeks....i wouldnt see a need to go more than once a week and this time of year i dont really see a need for once a week....too much chance to spook them and leave scent IMO
I check them 1 time a month during the summer. When season gets within a month I take extreme scent precautions. During the season I check them when I hunt near by. Take a card with me and swap them out. Sometimes I'll take a small hand held camera with so I can check them in the stand.
Every couple weeks or so. During. Season I will check them whenever I hunt since I keep them by my stand during the season.
Summer months I try to wait about a month. During the season I try to move them closer to stands and will check them on my way in/out to hunt.
No more than once a week but I can't wait any longer than once a month. But really, it depends on the set up that I'm running whether it's a creek crossing, a predator/varmint log crossing on a creek, a bait pile or minerals, weather conditions, how long before the season, free time, etc..
My backyard ones I try to let soak 10-14 days. The other hunting property is an hour away so sometimes those soak up to two months before I get back down there. Wish I could check them every couple weeks.
Most of my cams are anywhere from 2.5-4 hours from my house. Once a month at best before season. During season I've got a rule that I don't check cams at all unless I'm already walking by them to hunt.
Before the season? Once every 3-4 weeks. It's generally for inventory purposes this early. During the season I check them much more frequently, but nearly all of them are on field edges where a 4 wheeler can be driven to them. Regardless of time, if I have to walk to check one, I wait until right before a rain to do so.
I think it really depends on the location of the camera, if you have it in an easy to reach low impact area then you can certainly check it as often as you want (once a week being frequent enough). I never check a camera before once every two weeks in the summer months. I last checked my cameras 2 weeks ago and I will not check then again until a week or so before the season opener October 1 in Indiana. It does me no good to go in and put unnecessary pressure on my property in the month leading up to the start of the season! 1 September camera check! During the season, change them out on my way to and from the stand... Don't usually go out of my way to check a camera though, only unless I hunt the stand it is near.
in your situation once a week probably will be fine because suburb deer probably will tolerate more human scent.
