Enjoyed the story so far. Lots of work getting to where you are. I started on a forty last year and have lots of work to do to get to where you are.
These are the 3 deer I will be after on the farm this year...there is a 4th that hasn't shown up on camera yet..but he didn't show until August last year so I'm not worried yet Survivor...has his own thread Pretty boy...has his own thread #1...the perfect 10..I haven't talked about him much. He doesn't show up as regularly as the other 2, but I do know him from last year..tremendous genetics..im confident if he doesn't get killed this year he will be a booner next year

Nice looking setup and deer Booner! I had a nice 6x5 last year that I was pretty sure would make a run at being a Booner this year as a 4.5 year old but he got gored in the belly on his right side and had a hernia there for a long while, it healed up (incredibly) but this year he's just a straight ten point...improved but his left side has receded probably from that injury. He's a nice deer but he's not going to make a run at B&C until at least next year. Hopefully nothing like that happens to Perfect Ten. With any luck he'll explode and easily break B&C.
Thanks covey....I'm on the fence whether he is 3 or 4....he's definitely not any older than 4. it will be exciting to see him topped out in a couple weeks
Age can certainly be hard to tell. I have a few that I've got two and three years of history with and I know they were at least 3.5 when I first got pics of them but this year they still could be mistaken for 4.5 year olds if you look at their neck and brisket. It's easier to tell after they fill out for fall.
I have determined perfect 10 is 4. After going Back through last year's trail cam pics. I'm pretty certain He was 3 last year. So he is officially a target buck now. Think he will be high 150s.
I had a pretty busy weekend at the pit. Got my fall food plots planted. I used a tractor & 60" tiller to work the ground up, and a 48" cultipacker to prepare the seed bed. It turned out really nice. Rain is in the forecast 4 of the next 7 days. I have high hopes.
After tilling, I spread fertilizer with a small John Deere drop spreader I did this after tilling because the tiller makes a very soft seed bed and if I had put fertilizer down before it likely would have gotten to deep to benefit young plants. After fertilizing I cultipacked to push the fertilizer under the surface and also make a perfect seed bed for the small seeds
I am a big fan of cultipackers. They create a really good bed for planting. The seeds fall nicely into the grooves too
I also checked camera again. Pretty boy and survivor still showing up and appear to be topped out. No pics of perfect 10, but there are several up and comer 3 year olds on camera regularly. It's getting exciting!
