I'm hoping to catch a break in the weather to go after bass this week, since hunting season ended I've only been after crappie, catfish, and bream with my kids. Fishing reports have been good for bass on my local lakes recently so it's time for me to give it a shot. That kayak looks like an awesome deal by the way.

Overall had a slow fishing day today but I did get some action on a frog. Caught two on it, one of which was close to four pounds, and had a few hits where I lost the fish. I need more topwater baits to choose from cause bass were striking the surface a lot, I don't think the frog was the best bait for the day. Other than that I caught a few crappie since that's what I originally intended to fish for today.

We are having a bit of a cool front here and tomorrow evening I'll be hitting the lake. I'm thinking that since the bass have likely slowed down a little this week it would be a good time for me to try improving my skills fishing with senko's. If any of you that have success with them could drop some hints I'd be thankful. I'm familiar with the ways to rig them I just don't ever seem to connect when using them, but other people here do.

I love fishing senkos. I texas rig them and then find an area that holds bass. I'll cast up to the structure and just let the bait fall. Raise my rod tip, reel in the slack and let it fall again. Work it slowly back to you. Most of the time they hit it on the fall. It will feel like the bait just stopped moving down. Give it a second and set the hook.

Do you texas rig without a weight? That's what I've tried cause that seems to be the popular way to use them, I might just be screwing up by not noticing the bite and letting them spit it out without me ever setting the hook.

I've found a weightless senko casts very well. Fish it the same way it just falls slower. Or add a bullet weight out front

I like to use the swim weights on my senkos if I'm going deep or am trolling around. 5" Watermelon kills it on MI water

Just a suggestion, but your hook up percentage would go up quite a bit if you started trimming your weed guards. Everyone does it a little different but I've included below a picture of what it looks like when I trim mine.

Appreciate the tip! Do you notice more hang ups in weeds in really heavy cover like grass mats or lillies?

I love wading the local creeks here. These are some of the creek smallies I’ve caught in May while wading. Pics aren’t the best, but it’s been fun so far…
