I called in 3 gobblers this morning but my wife ended up missing. I'll be back at it again tomorrow hunting by myself.
I was waiting to see if my second bird had a better score. Do I still enter this one now, or wait to see if I get a second? I took my 72 year old father-in-law on his first ever turkey hunt this morning. He killed a 21# gobbler at eleven yards as it strutted in the decoys. He was done before 7am. lol
Here we Go! Set up my blind a couple hours ago on the edge of a field 'twix a known roosting area and a field that was just spread with fresh manure. Hopefully I can intercept a few birds tomorrow [opening day] here in New York State. I hit a crow call but did not hear any shock gobbles... we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
I believe you can post now and swap birds out later. We should probably confirm first. What did your first bird score fletch? GOOD LUCK gltomp!!! Be patient and I am sure it will happen. Go easy on the calling...
No gobbles or birds yet... patiently waiting. Called twice since 5:45. View attachment 58381 I think I'm in a dead zone for tapatalk. Sent from my E6782 using Tapatalk
Moved to higher ground. I was in a dip earlier. I can see a lot more from this position. Something walked behind me way earlier... No idea what it was. Sent from my E6782 using Tapatalk
Good night... I don't know who was more surprised, me or the small songbird that just flew inside the blind. Sent from my E6782 using Tapatalk
Well... no bird today - back at it in the morning! My cousin is a much better caller than I, so he says he'll meet me at the farm and call tomorrow. Whoopee!
Congrats to those who killed one! My season is over here. Another disappointing year and the trip to kansas is off. Gotta have the transmission in my truck rebuilt.
Well I am done messing around..... Soccer is over for the littlest one. Garage sale is done today. We made almost $1000 and got rid of a lot of of junk in the process. It feels good to get our house back as it is being over run with kid ****. Work has slowed down to a normal capacity so I should get some quality turkey time in this coming week if the weather cooperates. Caught about 500 crappie in the last week. I only wish all of them were keepers. I have 40 or so pounds in the freezer. Also found a pile of mushrooms. It makes for a great meal when you can have both fresh fish and morels on the the same dinner plate!
Turkeys are kicking out but. We are on top of them every day in this spot. Alissa passed on jakes on the decoys for 20 mins yesterday and today all the hens are surrounding us and feeding and the males are over the hill. I'm baffled! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So far the score is Birds 2 / Jerry 0. That's a ton of crappie and mushrooms Heck! I may have more luck fishing or scouring the woods for those 'things'. I haven't heard a gobble yet in response to calling or even natural behavior, and I've only heard gunshots three times (from 2 different locations) - on opening day - nothing yesterday. Packed up the blind and decoys Friday afternoon [we can only hunt 'til noon in NY] and will head to my Amish buddy's farm on Monday. I'll hunt over there on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (Tuesday and Thursday are out due to business meetings). If nothing happens over there, I'll come back to my cousin's property... it's much closer to home. I'm getting another decoy. I have enough points on our card that I ordered an Avain-X Feeder online. Maybe with her and the HS Jake I can get a big-'ole Tom to get interested. I can also use that and the lookout hen I have, together, (without the Strutter or Jake) and score later in the morning... if a Tom leaves his brood and sets out looking for love. Ok... time to get ready for church. Later,
Alright, so time for an update. I am done in Missouri. I killed my 2nd bird with a shotgun a few days ago so that I could focus on getting my wife a bird. It was a nice 3 year old, almost identical to my first one of the season. I will be leaving Wednesday for Wisconsin to hunt for 3 days. I'm taking both my bow and shotgun, so we will see what happens. Now for some really exciting news. I was finally able to get my wife a bird today. And what a bird it was. The way things look it's gonna be the highest scoring bird ever killed by a female in Missouri. And it looks like its gonna blow the old score away by almost 20 points. Super excited for her.
WOW... What a monster of a bird, record book for sure! It's a little chilly, but a beautiful morning here in upstate New York. Hopefully I can get a big ole Tom to come around.
