Booner love it bud. Makes me keep thinking longer and harder about some old strip mines or gravel pits which I may be able to grab cheap....not entirely the same but long term potential would be there.
That's what keeps me going on this property....long term potential. If I paid attention to short term results I would have given up a long time ago
Last night I created a funnel for a new stand. I used hinge cut trees to form a wall about 300 yards long through the timber, leaving a 50 yard gap to encourage deer movement past my stand. Here is a before and after pic

Killed a nice 2 bearded Tom last night. He came out with 2 jakes. I was able to stalkto within 35yds. The spitfire maxx hit him at the base of the neck and nearly severed it! 23lbs, 10 1/2 & 8 1/2" beards, 15/16" spurs. These birds were roosted in some big hardwoods where I have cleared the Bush honeysuckle about 3 years ago. He roosted there every night since opening night...finally came close enough
The weather was awesome yesterday so I couldn't help walking my pit to look for some early morels....no luck on shrooms but I did find some really cool stuff This is the biggest buck bed I have ever seen. It's on a little clump of high ground in the middle of a swamp....literally surrounded by standing water on all sides. You can see the sneak trail he uses into and out of there, the big log, everything a big buck would need or want in a perfect bed....
This is a burr oak i planted 3 or 4 years ago. There's about 100 of them....6-7ft tall and growing with 3 inches of standing water around it
I don't care what time of year it is...this big cedar rub in the middle of the swamp got me excited Crabapple tree in front of one of my stands is blooming
And once I checked on my pond I couldn't take it anymore...the water was crystal clear. I could see 10ft+ below the surface. I grabbed my pole and caught 4 12" bass in about 10 min
Awesome man... In that photo of the big buck bed, those bamboo looking plants that always grow around ponds, swamps, ditches etc. Any idea what they are called? Every bad snow winter the places that I hunt that have those they get browsed to the ground. Years with little snow they hardly get touched. Would love to see the 224" as well.
It's called snake grass. Stuff grows everywhere in my swamp. I don't have any pics of my big one on my phone....it's been a few years. If I remember I'll put a few on it
Found a really good sign yesterday...a Turkey nest with 19 eggs. I was mushroom hunting and found it in my swamp
