What in the actual ****... Just coming across this story today. I don't even have words for this. Banning the American flag?? UC Irvine Flag Ban That Raised Free Speech Debate Started With Bitter Game Of Cat-And-Mouse « CBS Sacramento UC Irvine Flag Ban
Anybody that sees the US flag as a symbol of colonialism and imperialism needs to go back and study the origins of our country again. This time do it with their head removed from their a$$. If anything, our flag stands in direct opposition to those ideas.
Seems beyond foolish that there would even be a discussion to remove the flags, if you offend an illegal they need to get over it because they aren't supposed to be here.
It's already been overruled by the school. But white guilt, American guilt, etc are all pretty strong within many colleges these days, especially more liberal ones. That is nothing new though.
Unless you were slave or Native American at the origins of the flag. Freedom of Speech is freedom of speech. I think it's a disgrace not to fly the Flag correctly, but that's me. We have freedom of speech until one group disagrees with you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This has been years in the making and should not surprise anyone. The wussification of America over the years along with nobody teaching kids to respect people anymore, this kind of crap is going to happen more and more.
well to be fair, these kids had so much respect for other people, that they didn't want to offend anyone, not even take the chance that they might offend anyone, thus their reasoning of taking it down so maybe parents are teaching their kids to be too respectful these days
Yeah I guess you're right. I was thinking about respecting the flag and it didn't come out like that.
Like our president, their Kids that REALLY believie it's hip to hate America. None of them would ever move out of America though. Unfortunately.
So very true! What I see some parents allow their kids to do/get away with today just makes me shake my head. Todays parents cater to their kids way too much and let them do as they please. I had a neighbor's 12 year old kid shooting basket ball at 9:15PM the other night. Wouldn't you think the parents would tell him it's a bit late for that??? So, I had to.
I don't know if it's as much of "hating" America as it is a culture shift to apologize for the greatness of this country. Never has there been a country with more freedoms and opportunities and willingness to help than we have in this land yet there is an element that is disillusioned by our success and seeks to point out every negative while enjoying the benefits and opportunities. Colleges and Universities are supposed to teach kids not memorization skills but how to think, but it seems in too many cases these institutions of higher learning merely impart their particular brand of Anti-Americanism slant to a youthful, impressionable, ignorant segment of the population. Like the preacher once said "if you let him the devil will take you to the dark room and develop your negatives"
I'm not sure that colleges, or high school, etc., is supposed to teach you to think. I think the goal of education is to give you stuff to think about. We want to give you the knowledge you need to draw conclusions about how you should live and what kind of culture in which you want to live. But that requires providing you with the knowledge, not the conclusions you should draw. In my opinion, too many social science classes are dedicated to teaching students the conclusions.
It amazes me how ashamed so many are of our country yet millions try to flood in illegally. I would love to send those who think our founding principles are outdated to another country for a year to try their luck at burning flags, bashing the government, protesting and making a solid living.
I think people used to flood into our country looking for freedom. Now they come looking for freebies.
For other country's hatered towards the US I think it's sour grapes and collage professions pissed off at capitalism because they can't do so they're stuck teaching.
