ATV Sprayer

I have been needing to buy one for awhile and I finally pulled the trigger on a 4wheeler a couple weeks ago and now I am looking at getting a sprayer for it now. I am leaning towards a boom sprayer and not the boomless models.

What model do you have and would you recommend it?

 

How big of an area are you looking to spray? What are you looking to spend?

 

My biggest field is 2 acres and I have 3 other fields that are 3/4 acre each.

I would spend $400 if the sprayer was worth it.

 

Since you are not on a tight budget, if it were me I would get this Fimco "boomless" one. It has a 30' wide path which is good for that size sprayer.

I have the "economy" one that compares to that unit that is quite a bit cheaper and it works pretty darn well. Parts are available at any farm supply and they are easy to work on.

Do you feel like you get good even coverage with a boomless?

 

Yes, with the unit I have I put water in it first and then adjusted turned it on and then adjusted the nozzles so they were spraying evenly. On the one I have you can adjust the height of the nozzles and the angle. On the better model you have three nozzles and more adjustments. I assume the nozzles would be as good if not better than the ones I have.

 

Some other things to keep in mind. The better model has a 3.8gpm pump. Mine is only 2.1gpm. The tank is also bigger on the better model. I bought mine used on a budget.

 

I got a northern tool 10 gallon sprayer and I made my own boom for it. For what I don't works great.

Fimco makes good stuff too.

 

I did this as well...only with a 15 gal one. Works great for what I need, and saved quite a bit.

 

I prefer the boom sprayer. You can fine tune your spray pattern for multiple uses with it. I spray about 110 gallons of round up per year with it. Besides crop fields or food plots, I also use it to maintain my driveway and easement. I made a special by pass hose for mine that allows me to spray just the edges of my driveway or easement, killing all weeds on the sides of the drive.

 

I have the 25 gallon fimco with three nozzle boom that can spray 30 feet wide. Thing is a champ, I am glad I bought it for food plotting. I used to do everything by hand and it took use an entire weekend to hand spray everything and it wasnt as accurate. With the boom sprayer its done in no time.

Henson-- on a $400 and under budget you could go wrong with this.

I have to agree with the option of getting a boomless. Its also my option to get a smaller tank (10-15) gallons. I have both a 15 gallon and a 25 gallon models. Here's the issue with the 25, its sooo heavy when full. Makes turning and maneuvering very hard. I have to use 4 wheel drive and add counter weights in the front.

Do you want something to do the job? Or do you want something to get the job done with?

How far you travel and terrain should drive that decision.
If you are doing under an acre plot that should have bearing on the decision also...

Buy what fits your need; then think half again for growth,-- before spending the cash!

These sprayers hookup easy to your tractor also.. few mods and bolt it on...

 

Thanks for all the info guys. I am going with the boom. Actually found the one I want on sale with free shipping to the store so I am gonna go ahead and jump on it. Now I just have to wait for spring to get here to put it to good use.
