We are looking at a lease in Indiana. Was wondering if anybody could fill me in a little on the regulations. I looked on the DNR website and I know we have to have a hunter safety course but does it have to be Indiana issued or is ours (PA) okay ? Also do you have to have a bow hunting safety course? I'm not too sure on the lease as it is 11 hour drive from our house, but we may try it for the price. This will be southern Indiana. Thanks in advance.
I've hunted the Indiana shotgun season a couple times.. My PA hunter safety card was good enough for a license out there. Not sure about the bow hunting course..
Any hunter safety course card should be fine. To the best of my knowledge they don't require a bow card yet. Where at in southern Indiana you lookin at?

Right down near a couple guys from on here and near where my brother lives. Hoosier National is half of that county as well. Good area no doubt....hilly country but big bucks roam there.
How often are you going to hunt your lease? Are you going to hunt bow and gun season? Indiana has a Bundle License available for $295. With this license you can kill 1 buck and 2 does. The nice thing is you can use that license in any of the seasons.
We will most likely go down twice - one week for archery and then an extended weekend for gun. We are looking at the bundle license...the price is so friendly to a nonresident!
It's what I have been buying since they came out with it a few years ago. My place is over in Ohio CO.
I have a 120 ac. piece down in Crawford Co. Terrain is a lot more like Kentucky than most of Indiana. Lots of rolling hills and forest and not much ag. A food plot would be premium. Also, there is a strong Amish presence in Crawford Co., and when shotgun opens, they start filling their freezers with anything that moves. Spend as much time as you can in the woods pre-gun. (that holds true everywhere, but especially down there.) Big bucks come out of those counties on the river though...should be nice.
Littlejohn right bout hills and such. But I've seen some really nice deer come out of that county because of the Hoosier forest. Not really Amish area though that's more in Davies county and such. Crawford just has a ton of backwoods people that don't go by laws and regs.
I have gone through our hunters ed in Indiana and they incorporate gun and bow together... We seem to be a pretty lax state basically you can't bate, or you have to have removed the bate 10 days prior to hunting the area.... and you can't run deer with dogs. Oh and as far as orange goes you have wear solid orange, and you only have to have a orange hat... you can wear more orange. But the way the hunting guide reads just a orange hat will do. Also if your born before 1986 hunters safety not required. Not sure about out of state but I believe this applies as well.
Thanks for all the information. They haven't got back to us, so lease may not be available - but thinking we may go this route in future instead of guided whitetail hunt.
Im not 100% sure but think your HS course should be good for here! No bow course needs to be taken that i know of. Im in southern IN pike county. Not to far from crawford!
