I have rage hypos, I don't care what anyone says thats what I shoot and will until they give me a reason not too. I don't knock fixed blade ones though because I used those for a couple of years until I got a free pack of hypos to try.
I shoot Swhackers and love them. Killed a lot of deer with them. I also shoot Magnus stingers....and now since trial153 introduced me to VPA'S. They will be my main fixed head. Sent from my XT830C
I currently shoot slick trick magnums, prior to those shot muzzy for about 5 years. I like em both the same
I've used the G5 Montec 100 grain fixed broad heads since I've began bow hunting. They fly great and the one time I've flung one at a deer it got the job the done (never used a mechanical broad head). I've never been out turkey hunting with a bow the few years I've been into archery, the turkey population has been way down, had a lot of coyotes and bobcat around and they both pretty much cleaned out the population and there were just no turkey to be found. Now that it seems the coyote population is starting to go down a bit the turkey are making a comeback, I've seen a lot turkey sign this winter and have heard them a few times, so this might be the first year I go out turkey hunting with my bow.
If I made the switch to fixed this is one of them I was thinking of giving a try. Whats your review on them?
As for the OP, I switched from Grim Reapers to Slick Trick Magnums. Let me tell you what, after using fixed prior to the Grim's and then going to the Slicks I'll forever be a fixed fan. I've never had an issue with flight with the Slicks (I did slightly with my Thunderheads prior to Grims)...never had an issue with penetration at all...have recovered every deer I've done my job on in less than 150 yards from shot...couple within 30 yards. I'm a huge advocate for the idea and concept behind single bevel two bladed heads but to get a good ones takes a decent amount of funds and my slicks have treated me just fine and more I use the more I just don't know if I'll ever go to single bevel. The QAD Exodus is a solid head from inspection standpoint and machinery did seem spot on...I do love the blade sharpness though of the slicks over the QAD head.
I've used both on deer. Big game go with fixed broadhead. I use expandables for turkeys. Both have advantages in different situations. Either will work. Fixed will probably get more pass through shots for deer. Mechanical will usually cause a bigger hole for deer. This is what I've gathered about broadheads by this site and personal experience. Not something you need to worry about. Fun trying different ones just for something to do if you want. As long as they fly well out of your set up it really doesn't matter, IMO.
shoot muzzy for many years with no issues however in the last two year I have shot swhackers and am 7 for 7...
I love them. I shoot out to 55 yards at home (practice) and they fly excellent. I killed two deer this year with them, a doe at 15 yards and a buck at 22 yards. Both had excellent blood trails and I could have easily reused the blades with a touch-up even though they were stuck 6-8" in the dirt. I always changed blades in any head after a kill but it wouldn't have taken much to retouch the edge on these QAD's if I wanted to reuse the blades. Very sharp and very tough.
If you wanting a fixed blade....you honestly missing out not looking at the VPA 3 blades. Trial told me about them....really are great heads. Sent from my XT830C
I like the NAP Killzones, and love the T3's. I like how they fly. If I was going fixed, I would probably go Slick Trick.
