Thinking about getting going in ML. Looking at a CVA Optima V2 vs TC Pro Hunter FX. Pro Hunter FX is $600 and the CVA is around $300. Reviews of the CVA V2 are very good and listed as a great bang for the buck but still just a shade under the TC in regards to fit finish and quality. Help me decide.
TC doesn't offer a truly stainless barrel in any configuration that I'm aware of. They have a weather coating, but that doesn't protect the inside of the barrel where you are likely to see the corrosion. I haven't bought one in a LONG time but almost did last year and did a ton of research. The Accura and Accura MR are the best quality options now I feel. If I were to buy one it would be the Accura MR, the new Nitride coating they offered it in for 2014 on top of the stainless barrel really puts it over the top for me.
Here's my Knight DISK, it's a little older but it still does a good job. Just got this buck Saturday afternoon.
I have a CVA Optima, and it's a solid gun! I'd be hard pressed to believe an extra $300 buys you twice the quality. It's a nice, heavy gun, action feels very precise, it's been very accurate for me (5 bullets, 5 deer so far this year - they all dropped). When I got into black powder, CVA and Traditions were 2nd class brands (Hunted w/a Knight for >15 yrs). I was shopping for an easier access breech and was pleasantly surprised with the Optima. I know T/C makes a quality gun, but I would put the Optima in the same class.
I bought a TC Encore the first year they came out. It really is a great gun, shoots great! That being said if I bought a new one tomorrow it would probably be a CVA. I have shot and handled many of them and they are for the price just as nice as the TC's IMO.
Can the barrel on the CVA handle 150gr. Magnum loads? I know the t/c can, that's was the reason I bought the omega over the cheaper ML I was considering(don't remember now what it was).
Yes the Optima can handle magnum loads. I did get the Optima. It was on-sale for $239. Just can't beat that. I ordered the Nikon XR Scope which has not come in yet.
Is that a break-action? I'm in the same boat as you. Thinking about buying one and have been looking at T/C but with a newborn son now, price is important. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes. Can't you see the action is broke? J/k The level on the trigger guard is the release. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Haha touché. I'm still in the "beginning" stages of buying one. Thanks for the info. Hope you like it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
