Yeah thats what I am thinking to. I am gonna let our place cool down for a couple weeks so I won't be back down until the last weekend of October for a nice 4 day weekend. I figure they will be all sorts of active by then.

Your guy find that deer this morning?

I’m bummed and not for the reason you might think!

I waited all day for word on my buddy’s search for Flyer. That’s the name we had given the buck he shot last night.
After he backed out--- we got about an inch of rain. Not a good scenario.

Ten hours of searching today turned up nothing; no sign was ever found. A grid search was performed, they called in the dog, and still nothing.

He had a quartering away shot at 23 yards. Got 7 inches of penetration into the offside shoulder. A little forward, but no doubt deadly in my mind.

    The reason I’m bummed!

Deer come and go in our world of bow hunting, the pain of losing such a buck is devastating.

Another deer will replace Flyer, but the memory of wounding and losing him will never fade from my buddy’s mind.

Heading out after work tonight to try the blinds we put in last Sunday. Here is the layout of the sets. We are supposed to have a 12-15 mph West wind. The wife will be in the one on West side of this picture, and I’ll be in the East.

She will have this view 
    [IMG]

This is the blind I’ll be in 
    [IMG]

And the view of the creek crossing

Well we hunted the blinds Friday evening at the family farm - Wife had a nice 8 point come in but couldn't get a shot off.
I didn't see a deer.. Wind was swirling bad for my blind setup. It was hitting the high creek bank and coming right back around to me.

Pulled that cam I had on the wife's blind and she verified that the buck she saw was the piebald. He is hanging out there.
Here is a pic of him the day before she hunted that blind.

    Update on this buck

As you recall I posted where a buddy on the lease shot this buck a while back..

Good news. He was seen last night 70 yards from where he was shot by my buddy.

The shot hit him in the neck right in front of the shoulder blade. He has a scar and it looks like it was just a meat hit.

    Thoughts, opinions, etc...

Thinking about taking off next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (10/29-10/31). Then Monday (11/3) and I have Tuesday (11/4) off for Election Day. Then taking off 11/11-11/14 to catch the last few days before the orange army invades.

Decent plan or should I just shoot for the first full week in November?

Goose your plan mirrored what I was gonna do until life stepped in and job ain't allowing full days off so a bunch of afternoon sits will happen....and had to spend a few vaca days for the Kansas trip which could be WELL WORTH it. I am expecting to kill RD either this week till next Monday or the 4 days prior to gun.....I hope if the Lord blesses me so!

Goose I am taking a 4 day weekend to hunt 10/31-11/3 as well then I plan on a week of vacation the same week as you. I think it will be a good one.

Ty- just watched your video on FB about the locked up bucks. Make sure you update us if your dad was able to go look for them on that property.

All signs point towards they must have got unlocked.....I suspect the old hunter just may have never seen two mature bucks fight for extended amount of time. Many a person has said they've watched for 10,20 even 30 minutes bucks go back and forth not separating...so hopefully they are fine and two bucks still live.

Got one more hunt (Saturday) for RD before heading to Kansas Tuesdays.

I have my vacation locked in much like you Goose.... 11/30-11/03 11/6-11/9 11/12-11/16 :) Should be good.

Saw a decent buck chasing a doe across a bean field on my way to work this morning.

Heading out this evening after work to do a hunt with the wife in her ground blind. Last Friday she had a good buck come in, but couldn't get a shot.

Tonight I am setting with her and will try to rattle him in. Should be a fun evening
