Today while shooting I noticed my D-loop looked like it was starting to slightly fray. Now I just purchased a new bow this year and I have never had any experience with having to replace a D-loop, usually they have lasted the life of a bow for me since I usually get a new bow every 2-3 years. I honestly admit that I looked at it after a few shots and thought to myself maybe I should quit shooting and get this thing replaced, but I thought a few more arrows wouldn't hurt, and man was I WRONG! I went to draw and then I went straight to my A**. So I guess the advice I am trying to give and wish I would have followed, is if your equipment doesn't look 100%, it's not worth testing it! get it fixed.
Well, there's a bright side and another bad side to this story. 1. Bright side= You throw a hell of a punch 2. Bad side= You may have a glass jaw. Glad you're okay too. I had my release get out of adjustment this year when I started shooting again. It tripped and I thought I had maybe bumped the trigger. Next draw I smacked myself in the mouth. Didn't knock me down but I was mad enough to kick my own *$$.
I would take a good look at your release. If it has a sharp edge or burr it is just going to cut the next one.
had my string snap on my bow last year mid draw, just before school, busted my nose, not broken but man that hurts had a d loop come loose this year... good luck and happy hunting
Ouch. Glad it wasn't worse. I think about this more than I should and find myself drawing my bow away from my face rather than toward it. Which is not smooth. Kilboars Hunt Club
I used to use an ultra knock that clamped on and I loved it. I changed bow shops last year when I bought this element and the guy there refused to install one so I let him go with a string loop. I liked the ultra knock better to be honest.
Not the same thing exactly, but I once had to let down after the deer I was drawn on moved behind a bush. My jacket was unzipped and the tail got between my string and the cam. Not good ! Long story short, bow blew up when the string derailed. Ruined my cam and scared the hell out of me, otherwise ok. Don't leave my jacket unzipped any more !
yikes - I have that fear of it happening one day. Glad you're not hurt (other than pride). One of those things you look around to see if anyone was watching!!! Guess it could be good practice to replace string loops every quarter or so depending on how often you shoot. Cheap insurance.
