Just wondering how you guys prefer you're venison. I killed my first deer on Sunday and got a large amount of meat, looking for some creative and tasty ways to cook it. I'm sure there's a thread like this somewhere but I just want to hear some responses for my own. Thanks!
If you have a grinder, deer tacos all the way. If not, I like a hind roast with onions, potatoes, carrots, a little beef broth, garlic and water. Throw it in the crock pot for 8-10 hours, and season to taste.
We make everything, meatball bombers, hamburgers, fajitas, hot venison sandwiches. We go through the ground venison like crazy. I never add any fillers to my ground venison either!
With ground I always make "sloppy does", chili, shepards pie, anything you would use ground beef for really.
Crazy Burgers. One pound ball of ground. Fold a piece of bacon into a V shape press the burger down on it to about a 6 inch by one inch patti. Cook that side until bacon is to taste, fold another piece of bacon, flip the burger over on top of it and press lightly. Stir fry some onions and peppers Make two grill cheese sandwiches. Make a burger out of the burger and the grilled cheese sandwiches. Add whatever else you may enjoy. Cut one full potato into 8 wedges and fry these. I bet you'll like it... a lot.
We really need to have a proper Recipe thread. I do the same thing as Remyngton with backstraps. Marinate them in brown sugar/etc. Wrap them in some bacon. Pow! them are good. I also make a really nice stir fry. This year I'm going to try and do a Venison Parmigiana. However, I need to get the ingredients first. (If you know what I mean) I really enjoy cooking, I especially like cooking when I've harvested it myself.
DnH_Scents, now I know haha. Thanks for not hating on the newby who doesn't know what he's doing here guys. and thanks for the link.
That looks good.. and I cant believe Im going to say this about anything that has BACON in/on it/any where near it.... but I like the taste of my backstrap to be BACKSTRAP! A little salt and pepper, then fry them bad boys up! Mmmm
