Here is an update on the big plot of freak show, vital stats- -killed off with round up in mid may then again in early July. -Disked down plot on July 27th -broadcast at 4.5 pounds to the acre on July 27th following the disking. -Spread 19-19-19 at a rate of 300 pounds per acre on July 29th -plot is finished and now just pray for the rain! plot pics 2 weeks from seeding This is 4 weeks from seeding this is 6 weeks from seeding Here is Sunday which was 9 weeks after seeding it, these are the standard bulb sizes right now I will continue to update this plot thread throughout the remainder of the fall. Mine looks very similar. I think planted my first plot the first week of August. I have another plot that I planted Aug. 27th, I wanted to see how much of a difference it would make to get it in later. New to the food plot thing so its been a learning process. I learned a valuable lesson about killing off the weeds with my clover plot as it is pretty overrun. The Freak Show on the other hand looks awesome. Now just waiting for a frost and cold weather to see if they like it
radishes are 6 week maturity range, the purple top turnips around 60 to set decent bulbs. My suggestion though for fertilizers if one doesn't have a soil test would be to push the potassium levels and include a sulfur source. Brassica's are my specialty and i am currently doing another brassica trial. I will include more of that data once we hit 60 days. From the pics, it appears that you have a forage turnip cross and hunter brassica in there?
there are seven different brasisca's in the mix. 2 forage rape hybrids, 3 that are bulb focused, and 2 that are primarily tops only. As for the fertilizers, you can for sure get for specific than 19-19-19, for me as for most guys, it is a fertilizer readily available, and plain and simple does the job. you get 57 pounds of Nitrogen, 57 Pounds of phosphorous and 57 pounds of potassium, recommendations for purple top production in agricultural practice is 60 pounds Nitrogen, 60 pounds phosphorous and 60-100 pounds of potassium. 300-400 pounds of triple 19 meets all these requirements. As far as radishes maturing in 6 weeks, I will attest that after years of growing them they don't stop there, I will pull one in a few weeks at say 12 or 15 weeks and post the picture of it then.

I probably sell 4 semi loads or radishes and have been involved in numerous radish research. Most people don't know this but you can count the number of radish growers on 1 hand. No matter the name, as The university of Minnesota and Michigan research has shown, they should all perform similar because...well...they are all grown by a small group of people in one area in the western us. Slap a different name on the bag and whoollaaaaa....
