My 12 year old son, Sam, has 2 years of rifle hunting under his belt, but this was his first season being able to hunt with a bow. I decided to upgrade his bow for his birthday in April and we got it dialed in quick. When season rolled around, we wasted no time getting out and putting his practice to good use! <br />

After having an encounter with him during the rut…no arrow flew…I continued to hunt him… primarily focusing on food sources…although I thought he might move in daylight during the second mini-rut as we have so many twin fawns that may not have been in estrus during the main rut.<br />

We’ve had a cold snap here in Maryland over the last couple of days and archery season reopened this morning … as luck would have it after nearly 45 days of hunting this...<br />

Long story short, had a smaller odd rack busted up 8 point come out and hang around for about 10 minutes. He kept looking back in the direction he came out of the brush. After about 3-4 times, another buck, this buck, came out on the same exact trail.       <content:encoded><![CDATA[Three buddies and myself did our annual bow hunt to southern IL Nov 6-13.  I guess we hit things about perfect in regards to rut activity, chasing, deer movement, weather, etc.<br />
<br />
I killed a great clean 10 point, one guy killed a wide nine point, third guy killed a heavy eight point with busted brow tines, and the last guy took a doe.   All of the bucks grossed P&amp;Y or better.   Pretty amazing to have 100% success on an archery trip.<br />

After the shot, the buck bolted, ran about 80 yards and went down only to get back up a couple of times, then layed 80 yards away watching his backtracking.       <content:encoded><![CDATA[I shot a decent buck today with my compound bow. On impact, the arrow didn’t pass through and only penetrated about 10–12 inches. I found the arrow about 100 yards from the shot location, and I was able to follow a blood trail for a few hundred yards before it dried up.<br />
I’d really like to recover this deer but I’m struggling to figure out where he went after the blood trail ended. Based on the penetration and the sign I’ve seen so far, does this look like a deer that would bed down...<br />

I fired at a deer 8:14 this morning. Shot from a tree stand on a hill looking down. My guess is the bolt went in somewhere mid hopefully behind the shoulder and exited low. Deer was quartering to. Bolt was drove in the ground lined with fat and a tiny bit of blood on the fletchings. Big clumps of white hair from the exit. Deer ran about 10 yards then started walking. That&#039;s where first blood was found. Blood was bright red. We waited 30 minutes to track. Trailed him...<br />

Did not get pass through but arrow placement looked amazing from 21 yards (confused why the arrow didn’t pass through) arrow broke in half and both ends of the arrow came out of the deer, blood all the way to the fletchings and stops, bright red blood on arrow and meat on the broadhead. <br />
