I'm not new to hunting but this is my first year on deer and first ever bow hunting. Two weeks ago I missed a couple shots on a doe I thought was 50yds out , turns out she was 57. Anyway, no big deal, does are everywhere. So last weekend we get into rut and the bucks are chasing. My friend, who's family land i get to hunt, has been watching and hunting this monster for 2-3 years. Last year he sjot him in the shoulder blade and he lived. My buddy has those sheds. Anyway, he's seen him several times this year and is gracious enough to allow me to still hint the area. GOOD friend there , thanks mike! This deer is a massive mainframe 12pointer with 2_3inch stickers going aideways. Really tall main tines and really wide round rack. Beautiful light colored buck with massive neck and chest. My friend estimates he'll easily score 180_190 or more.

Sorry phone dying, will finish the story later. You don't wanna miss this.

Shooting at a Doe at 50 plus yards your first year bowhunting. I'm gonna go make some popcorn and see what this thread looks like in a half an hour.

Advice? 50-57yd shots--only during target practice; for deer think how you can draw them inside of 30yds, closer is better.

I'm gonna heat up my lunch and pull out a lawn chair for the show as well...

Wow, a "couple" shots let alone 1 shot at that far?!?! Hmmmmm like u its my first year bowhunting but I have firearm hunted all my life. I personally wound never even think of taking a shot on a deer at those distances with a bow. I won't shoot on a deer that's 35 yards let alone around 55 yards. Even though I practice out to 50 I set a limit of 30 at the very most for myself. And it better be a very very very great clear broadside shot even at 30 for me to let it fly.

You need to get hooked up with a mentor that has a lot of experience with being an ethical bow-hunter. You have an incredible amount to learn and definitley have gotten off to a horrible start. Limit yourself to broadside shots only and no further than 20 yards.

The mentality that its okay to fling arrows at does just because there are a lot of them is sickening to me. I think you many want to keep the rest of this story to yourself and hopefully someday soon you will understand why.

I think we've heard enough already. You shouldn't be taking 57 yard shots. I don't care if its a doe or a buck of a lifetime. Id recommend practice but seems like a lack of common sense is the issue.

I honestly do not get this!!!!!!! I am far from being perfect but mate what is going through your head? This sport is a privilege and a group of people that for the most part have a true affinity and respect for not only nature but the quarry that we hunt. Popping of several arrows at a live animal over 50 yards is clearly insane! Mate, go back to your bag and try get some more practice in because honestly how you act out there affects us all.

im with everyone else. i only let my gf sight her pin into 20 yards, even though she can shoot farther i dont want her letting the size of the rack fog her judgement on a bad shot.

I am hoping this post is not for real, just someone thinking they are funny and coming in to get everyone riled up. That is the only thing I can think of because being a new bowhunter myself, I sure as heck know better than to take a shot at 50 yards. When I am in a stand I follow exactly what Fletch says...20 yards broadside.

He just needs a lighter, faster arrow to make up for misjudging yardage at that range.

Don't forget about a 2.3" expandable, to "expand" his kill zone

That, and a bow that shoots 360+ fps. Then you only need one pin from 20-60.

Cut the guy some slack. He's new to this. How many people on here would know exactly what to do their first time? No need to run off somebody new to bowhunting. I guarantee that anybody on here that didn't have a mentor sitting in the tree with them has had their fair share of foolish mistakes. Nobody is perfect.
