Well here it is guys as promised! My October 13th hunt that resulted in my best buck to date while self filming! Enjoy! **made a couple corrections***
FANTASTIC! What a beautiful Florida Back. Crazy shot but that rage did it's job. Congrats. Isn't self-filming a pain? I saw that big buck and your were messing with the camera, I'm screaming " forget the camera, your gonna get busted". Glad you did though, great footage and nice editing. Way to go.
HAHAHA it is a pain, but I'd be lying if i said i didnt love it. The way i had to position the camera makes the shot look like he is quartering to a lot harsher than he actually was. The second angle cam shows a better "hunter's" perspective. He was still quartering to, but like i said in the video, its a shot ive made a thousand times over the summer in preparation for a scenario just like this one. The worst part about it all was when i drew, i thought for sure he was going to keep coming in, so i drew, and when he stopped i was stuck, couldnt let down, just had to wait for the shot. The shot was perfect, and was executed just as i was planning. It put a hole in both lungs, gashed the heart, and hit liver on the way out...no way he was making it outta there alive haha. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video to go along with the story man!! You put a great shot on him as well....We don't always get that perfect slightly quartering away shot with the front leg extended forward so you have got to be ready for these shots. It didn't appear you had long to shoot anyway before he trotted off. I am not sure how you got away with all that camera movement as he was coming in though lol....SE NC deer would have turned a 180 and been 300 yds away before I hit the record button lol...Again congrats on a great Florida buck and thanks for sharing the story and video....
Haha well these FL deer are always on edge, but the 2 yearlings he was running around consumed enough of his attention to distract him, added also he was searching for the source of that sweet smell of love and estrus, and we know how distracted they can get with that on the brain haha. But this tree, although its hard to tell from the video, is tucked back into a lot of vines in front of the stand that climb up to the 18ft mark, and there is a big fork in the tree at about shoulder level that completely breaks my silhouette, and lastly, and probably most important, this stand faces north, so the tree has a pretty dark shadow cast over it all day, especially at/around sunrise/sunset, couple that with a generous canopy and you can get away with more than other spots i hunt
Great job all the way around...you were at full draw for quite awhile and still executed a perfect shot for the angle! congrats!
always love goin back and re-living this hunt! One of my favorites so far, to this day when i watch it i can feel my heart beating like crazy while im at full draw haha....gotta love this sport!
