I personally have a hard time believing the overall recovery rate. They must be only surveying very experienced and good bow hunters. If you took all bow hunters, both good and bad, I think the overall recovery rate would be lower.

The way I read it this study was conducted on a pretty heavily managed property that has pretty strict rules and lots of people to help search for wounded deer. I expect that had a lot to do with the results and why they probably aren't typical of say public land, etc... The quality of the hunters is probably a lot higher than average.

It sounds like most were experienced hunters in a heavily managed setting.

I guess that is my point. A lot of bow hunters are not experienced and are desperate to shoot a deer when within range. This article only proves that the equipment is capable of being very proficient. I don't think bow hunters as a whole are nearly as proficient as this article would suggest.

I guess the bigger point that I pulled from it was what he stated early in the article about what can be possible with archery tackle. Especially compared to what the anti's put out there. I do agree with you that in a normal setting that those number would probably not hold up. As with most studies that are in a somewhat controlled environment this one is somewhat flawed as well. Overall the point made I think is a positive one.
