Okay, seriously guys I realize scoring is just for fun typically...and most of us do the scoring ourselves, however doing these following things will GREATLY increase your measurement accuracy! -Once you've measured once, get out a fresh sheet a paper or flip over the one you just used as to avoid first measurements affecting a now SECOND set of measuring....you will amaze yourself in how much of a difference this can make. -ASK OTHER GUYS ON YOUR TEAM, THE SITE OR AROUND YOUR AREA if it seems reasonable! -Look at other people's bucks as reference that either had a licensed scorer do it (they'll post the scorecard often) or are seasoned vets at scoring. As a reference below are some bucks I at least would be very confident referring to for just eye ball comparisons: *Disclaimer...this are scores for the most part as they were reported I didn't check the math of all, just some. While they may be off an 1/8 here or 3/8 there, for the most part these are very accurate figures even if off a touch total wise. As for actual scoring help see this thread: SCORING TUTORIAL Some of the scores in the bh.com contest have been/will continue to be at times "a little" mysterious. It's for fun, but I also don't want anyone to make a "butt" of themselves in the real world when someone is like "Dude that thing is at best insert number." A lot of the time running score by another person, double measuring and then comparisons can point out glaring and sometimes minor mistakes we make when scoring. Just a FYI thread today.
A guy near me showed me pic the other day of a "130" deer. By looking at these pics it was at best 112. haha.

There are honest mistakes ... and then there are scumbag cheaters ... the 6 point is an honest mistake ... a young man...
We have scoring issues every year. You can have a panel of P&Y official scorers score a deer and get a variety of scores on the same deer. Just do the best you can and go from there. The contest is supposed to be fun, but it seems many are hellbent on making it one big pissing match this year.
Not the case, merely pointing out that asking others, referencing others and double scoring can give the hunter a more accurate score. It's also a learning experience for many when scoring their own, mistakes will be made, and pointing errors out respectively isn't about a pissing match is about simply assisting others in developing a fair and proper score. Scores can vary from scorer to scorer but that is a 100% different topic as we here either score ourselves or have one person do it. *edit*I should have said "Not the case for me" just to make it clear.
I was looking at the reference deer and Southern MD archers deer is 112 4/8. I also saw that oklahoma99 is 108 6/8. Is it just me or does Oklahoma99 deer look bigger. I'm not trying to say they are wrong but just wondering. Maybe it is the picture angles too.
I have no idea what went on. I guess I'm missing something. The question did seem odd but I figured I'd better answer it honestly anyway. I kinda figured something was up.
Schultzy, not you...you are always a class act...I was nipping it in the bud before it for going with others....
I think angle plays a part and OK's looks bigger not only due to angle but also due to non-in-sweeping beams. Southern's looks smaller but has longer beams despite not looking like it and better overall tine length....but you're talking less than 4 inch difference in this case.
