Looking at getting a new pair of leather hunting boots. I haven't used leather hunting boots in years, I've used Danner before. 2 I'm currently looking at are...Danner pronghorn and cabelas meindel. 400 g in each should be ok, I think. Anyone have any other suggestions?
They do run true to size. ie: if you wear a 10 shoe, don't order bigger because it's a boot like you normally do, order a 10.
I've got the Danner Pronghorns 400g no problems for the first two years. But with my CO trip they didn't do as well as I wanted. The leather got soaked through a couple days and froze stiff on the coldest day. They still kept me warm though (with merino socks). After crossing a few boulder fields like the pic below and some of the other rocky terrain I missed a decent shank in the boot. Having said that, I think the Danners are decent enough for most of my NC hunts. The leather will be getting some oil/wax shortly though...
I'm going to have to say Danner!! Love their boots!! I know you were looking for other name brands but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Just looking basically at comparison between the 2 listed. Local Bear hunters who hike many miles in the mountains are fans of the meindels. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Went with the meindl perfekt 10s. Just took them on their maiden voyage, literally right out of the box. Did a couple miles with ~1500 ft elevation change. Day 1, and I'd give them a 10/10. I paired them up with a pair of darn tough socks and even though it's warm here and the boots are 400g, they breath really really well. Excited to add some more miles on them.
