Gets me everytime

So waited till what I thought was all clear tonight. Got everything packed up bow lowered and took one step and WHOOOOO! Sweet jesus ( may have peed a little lol Jk) definitely got snuck up on and had no clue the deer was there. I know it's happened to me before and I'm sure you all have had it happen at some point but dang it gets me everytime.

 

I had this happen to me Friday night I was getting everything packed up and looked over and seen her staring right at me

 

This happened to me saturday but it was a young fork horn grunting and acted as if he was on a hot trail i thought he was gonna run me over.

 

It gets me every time too.

 

Pisses me off every time.

 

There's nothing quite like sitting in a ground blind and having a deer blow at you from just a couple feet away in the dark. I about had a heart attack last time that happened.

 

Make more noise when packing up to keep the deer from wandering in.

 

I had something similar happen last season just past legal shooting light. I climbed down from the tree while hunting in a valley. Had a real nice shooter trot down from the other side of the valley and literally stopped about 30 feet from me. I had to clear my throat to get him to stop or he would've walked right up to me!! That didn't quite scare the piss out of me but it got the heart going like nothing else could!!

 

I'm always amazed at the sound does can make blowing you out. It's like an air-horn from a semi-truck even from our little deer in FL.

 

I always wonder how they can possibly blow that loud without their brains coming out their nose.

 

Never thought of it that way.

 

Disagree completely...stay as quiet as possible in the stand. don't educate them that we're in the trees. All their other predators are on the ground, so better to bump them there. Happens to me a lot too btw...on stand and on the ground.

 

Separate but similar topic:

Up until this year, every time I've hunted out of a ground blind I've had it set in an "ambush" position with it backed into high brush. New location this year that doesn't have that option. Apple orchard w/ rows of 6' apple trees spread apart where shooting between rows is an option. Twice now I've been blown out by deer behind me. I'm not a fan of the restrictions of a ground blind when not in an ambush set-up, and being limited to only whats in front of me when they could possibly come from 360 degrees. I'm 75% sure they blew me out because of a tent mysteriously appearing in the middle of their field, and not because of being scented. Any opinions on going without the blind, and just sitting against a tree?

 

If they are not close they don't know if the noise is from a stand in a tree or on the ground. They just hear and avoid coming into the area.

I hate it when it's coyotes. I poop a little then.

 

I was sitting in my climber a couple weeks ago and a coyote started howling just down the ridge from me. He came up the ridge and walked under my stand, howling all the while. I could barely make him out by moonlight. I let him keep walking, since I wasn't in danger 15 feet up the tree. It was a pretty cool experience being that close and listening to him howl.
