Absolutely !! I myself believe anytime from the last week of October through the fist 2 I/2 weeks of November.....every year without fail. Killed many bucks on Nov 13-15. With all due respect to Charlie Alsheimer and Wayne Laroche for doing the moon study over many years.....much of the results were a waste of time.
Depends what part of the country you hunt. In the northeast I say most action will occur between October 31- November 20
I can't remember where, but I read most record book bucks are killed on November 7th. I think it was Pope and Youngs monthly newsletter. Everything I have read so far says the last 5 days of October this year.
The problem with listening to shows like Wired to Hunt is they have to put out something. It's their job to put hunting related stuff out there for people to read, listen to and get there sponsors merchandise in front of you. Not bashing Mark hey he gets do what he wants for a living but it doesn't matter if he's right or wrong most people won't remember or care come November.
I have taken every daylight picture of a 3.5 year old and older buck from my cameras and put them in a spread sheet going back to 2012. It is pretty amazing to see when the bulk of the movement takes place. Not only that but I'm starting to see a pattern from September up till the start of November. I have it on my work computer so I can upload it now but if anyone wants to get their area figured out I highly suggest starting this.
These are not his actual predictions. It's a collection of different views mashed into one article. Having said that, I don't buy into the predictions because it's usually the same time every year. The amount of activity might change with weather and other factors, but not the rut.
I'm hoping you say this in jest, as I'm also hoping you know better. Photoperiodism, which is defined as "the response of an organism to seasonal changes in day length" is what triggers the rut. The rut takes place regardless of the weather.
I want to believe that warm temp shuts it down during the day but one of the largest bucks I've seen on the hoof was chasing a hot doe @ 1:30 PM on 11/11/14 in 70 degree weather w/ 2 others. 35 yrds straight in and back out and he walked away w/ no shot. I learned if it's Nov, be in the tree.
Very true. I also heard one guy say in his observations over many years of when a rut may seem on the early side that was in correlation with those days of late summer and early fall may have had many overcast days which could slightly "trick" the pineal gland into thinking daylight is shorter sooner.
Here is my findings... this is daylight buck movement from 2012 through 2015 for bucks 3.5 years old and older. I hunt a habitat type that probably makes up less than 1% of the Midwest acreage wise so this data might not be super useful to most people. To save my "area" and "days" I like to hunt that area the Midwest is as close as I will say to where this data is from.
