Just got back from one of my favorite hunts ever and I am a very proud Dad! I cant thank Fletch enough for this one either. My son Justin got the chance to meet Dave a couple of times at the Iowa Deer Classic and talk deer hunting. After a long talk over dinner about deer Dave invited Justin to come hunt his place and made sure I put in for a preference point the first year and to put in for the tag this year. We headed down Friday and met up with Dave and checked trail camera pictures to get an idea of what bucks were on the farm. The first night we saw about 40 deer, mostly does but the fog was horrible and the last hour we could only see 75 yards. The next day it rained all day and we saw about the same amount of deer but a few more bucks including a 8 pointer that I would guess to be 150ish. Justin could not see him from the window he was looking out. I tried to get him into position to shoot out my window but a doe saw motion, took off and cleared the field. The third night was super windy and the deer were coming out on the other side of the field. We saw over 50 deer including 10 bucks and Justin was pretty excited. I saw a mature buck headed our way checking out a few does. We changed positions and Justin got ready for the shot. As he got closer and Justin said it was a buck he wanted to shoot I ranged him at 50 yards. I told him to get ready and I stopped him, I told Justin to shoot him and he dropped him in his tracks with his Savage 220 slug gun. It looked like blood sprayed from his neck and at first I was thinking what happened with the shot. After checking him out when we hung him we saw that he shot him behind the shoulder, broke a rib and changed course and came out of his neck. He was a big bodied buck that we are thinking wass 5 or 6 years old, he scored 132 6/8" with 5 2/8" bases. Thanks again Dave I really appreciate everything.

Awesome congrats to your son. I'm not happy he killed the last deer in Iowa so everyone save your money and go hunt elsewhere!

I wish we could have gotten him a giant, but maybe its best to not spoil him too early. lol A new personal best is still a nice consolation.

You guys had some of the worst weather conditions imaginable. I really thought we might be in for some very poor hunting with all the wind and rain. It definitely slowed the big boys down some. I am really pleased he was able to take a very mature buck and got to see several deer. Justin is a great kid and a patient hunter for sure and he must have a very sweet mother to be so polite. :whip:
