Trapped in Stand

I have a small area that I have permission to hunt on... Frequently, deer will move into my area just prior to the end of legal hunting hours. If I can't get an ethical shot prior to sundown, I will find myself surrounded by deer, and no legal shot. Also, Sometimes deer will bed down in this area towards the end of an AM hunt. In both cases I feel trapped in my stand. I don't want to spook them, and I don't want to add pressure. What do you guys do in this situation?

I think we've all dealt with this a time or 2 usually i'll settle in and try to wait them out. There has been times where I will actually get down and leave knowing that said deer wont get to me until after legal light. I have heard of people using coyote calls and having friends/relatives come in on a atv or vehicle to move the deer on but I have never used those tactics so I cant really give any good or bad experiences with them.

 

find what direction they are coming from... move my stand about 100 yards in that direction and ambush em before its dark... or if not a good shot, at least I'm free to leave at dark without busting them..

 

You could bring a good book.

 

I usually try to wait them out then climb down the ladder stand slow and quiet, I have an exit to an open area but you still have to be slow and quiet.

 

Sounds like your smack dab in the center of their living room. I'd move to the outer edge where you can sneak in without disturbing anything and try to catch em coming to that spot.
I've had friends drive in with a truck to a field I was sitting in and it didn't ruin the spot at all. They don't know what lights are obviously they're always jumping in front of them haha

 

I've had that happen a few times myself...if I'm hunting with a friend, I text them and have them walk or drive in to kick them out. If I don't have anyone near, I just try to creep out of my stand and move away slowly.

 

That's one problem I'd love to have...LOL...

 

No it's not a fun problem, I dang near peed myself 1 time waiting on deer to leave.

 

I agree with smoke. Hunt the trail to that spot but make sure the wind is right.

 

I have one spot this always happens to me. I usually wait till 40-45 minutes after sunset and sneak out as mentioned. I have probably done this 8-10 times and never had one storm off or start blowing. I can not move my stand either as they bed on my property, only about 1.5 acres of woods, and spend 95% of their day on the neighbors.

 

If they come in after last shooting light how would you read a book?

This happened to me a couple weeks ago. So i howled like a coyote a few times. It worked at the deer left. I turned around in the stand and started to pack up. I heard a twig snap at the base of my tree and immediately a coyote let out a howl and 3 more joined in. I about fell out of the tree. No more howling like a coyote for me lol.

 

I did that once but roared like a lion and sure enough a lion came underneath my stand lol I'm just kidding I believe you

I drop the heaviest thing I have in the tree that wont break like a water bottle and blow at them about 1/10th of a second before it hits the ground. They take off running with no idea what just happened. If they don't know what it was they have no issue being back in that spot the next day. I pull this off on high pressure public land all the time without messing up my future hunts.
