Took my wife on her first ever hunt. We just had a 3 day weekend to hunt before I had to get back to work. The weather was miserable with between 2 and 3 inches of ice building up on the grass and limbs. On our final morning she took this deer at a 100 yards. The true blessing was that she'd borrowed her uncles .243, this same uncle was diagnosed just weeks before with stomach, lung, liver, and pancreatic cancer. He'd never gotten the chance to bring down a deer with his own gun. We made the drive back from western Oklahoma in horrible weather and made a beeline for his house. It was an overwhelming moment to say the least when he insisted on walking outside to inspect the deer. He was so proud. Not only had she killed a deer with his rifle, but her first deer was bigger than any ever taken by a family member before, field dressing data verified 180 lbs. 9 days after this picture was taken my wife's uncle Sam Coble left this life. This is a memory and a blessing that we will cherish forever, and we are grateful to God to have been able to be a little bit of light for him in the end, and grateful for the light that he was to us.
