As a working man (construction) I recently dislocated my shoulder. At this point (3 weeks in) I can't lift my arm above my head. This KILLS me. I'm so nervous that I won't be able to pull a bow back in August (practice). Anyone ever had this scare? I love archery in general, not just hunting. Damn it.

I'm suffering from this affliction currently myself. I'm scared ****less that I'll have difficulty archery hunting for turkey this May. I am currently going to a Chiropractor to seek relief... but he thinks that I may need to see an Orthopedic Surgeon. NO WAY do I want to go under the knife to relieve this pain! I'm trying light therapy also to see if that helps... plus I'm PRAYING that the pain goes away. I kinda' feel for you man...

Ive had a contusion in my left shoulder for 2 weeks now and have had to miss two league shoots because of it. I have always played hockey and my number one concern when hurt was going back and re-injuring myself doing something dumb. Hoping to get my arm above my shoulder this week!

Seek professional help. I was in a tree stand accident 24 years ago so imagine taking your elbow 90 degrees from your body and then touch your spine with it. Took two years to shoot a bow again and I stiil feel it at times. I was stupid and did not get surgery, some of the most painful theripy I have ever had.
Please see a specialist at the very least get checked out.

Go find a good ortho doc. I've a very good friend of mine that put off getting that very injury treated, thought it'd heal on it's own. It did, but incorrectly. Years later the problem was still there and causing very painful issues. Surgery fixed it better than new, after 3 months of PT. Years of pain and torture for no good reason all to avoid getting it treated correctly. PT can likely fix it good as new at this point, go get it looked at. I'm as guilty as every other guy about avoid doctors in general but for that type of "hurt forever" kind of injury even I go.

I'm in the medical field and while I can't give you medical advice, I can say that often a severe dislocation has some level of tearing or injury with it. That said, tissue healing time is about 42 days. So I'd wait another three weeks before self diagnosing with a major issue. By all means if the pain is too much, go to the doctor. In the mean time, try to put ice on your shoulder a couple of times a day for about 15 min a time. And rest your shoulder as much as possible. The average healing time for an average shoulder repair is 6 months. So better to seek advice soon and be healed by September, than to hold off all summer and then have the surgery anyways and miss the season. Good luck, and this message is by no means a treatment for any major issue. Consult you dr if you are worried.

Feb.26 I fell and dislocated my shoulder. WENT TO E. R.Could not afford ortho. doc. went to Family doc following Mon. said I could go to P.T. Can not get in till March 19. Do not think I can afford it since I am caregiver and live on 753$ a month. Good news is I can raise my arm but it hurts am able to finger walk up wall all the way. Hope I can shoulder gun and draw bow in a month or two. Some times it's not about being toughguy but not having cash. Hope ya'll can get in shape for season, maybe will see yuo out there.

I completely shattered my left elbow (30+ pieces) while in the Marine Corps. I did everything the Dr told me and didn't push to hard and now I can shoot my bow again. Be careful and don't over due it. One year hunting isn't worth the rest of your life not.

Same as Jerry I too am afraid of missing turkey season with my bow this year...well in general. Not a shoulder injury, but my ankle...broken in 3 places, going on my 7th week now, 3rd hard cast and still on crutches. Pain is still there and still not suppose to be putting any weight on it what so ever. Hopping this changes soon though, because thats the sooner I can start physical therapy. THE WORST! I feel your pain man, hang in there and do as directed by your doctors...I wish you a speedy recovery, good luck! You too Jerry!

Oh man i didn't hear about this?? sorry to hear bro, did it happen on the snow boarding trip?

Jerry, hope you have a fast recovery and heal fast old man!!!! LOL!!

OP, I dislocated my shoulder 8 times before i decided to actually see an orthopedist. (hockey injury) like another poster said, all i did was cause years of pain for no reason. hopefully it's not a bad tear and PT is all that's needed. keep us updated, and best wishes for a speedy recovery!
