Last winter I was fortunate enough to be put in contact with wildlife researchers that are trapping and collaring deer in my area. I did a write up on the whole thing, seen here: http://forums.bowhunting.com/bowhunting-talk/60689-trapping-whitetails-minnesota.html Today, Amanda and her new crew stopped by to do some scouting for additional trapping this winter. I showed them a few new spots on the other side of the lake where there's some newer cuts, and she likes what she sees. I'll find out Friday if they are going to trap in our area first or the area they're trapping in near Isabella, MN. If we're up first, we'll start setting up traps on Tuesday! I'm excited for another round of this. Also today, I got a message from one of the guys that's doing the 2015 moose survey. This was their second day out and they flew over today as they covered our grid. I got to run out on the lake to wave hi
Looks like they saw 9 moose and 30 deer in the plot they flew yesterday. This area has a large amount of cut timber (part of the moose habitat restoration effort) and it seems that they were seeing more than in other areas nearby. Thats a good sign
We have 10 traps placed in the area now. They set two more in another areas to the south, with more going in today and monday. Traps have been baited but not armed yet. Sounds like everything should be in place and ready to go for arming the traps on Thursday and checking would begin Friday. We've already had deer walking up to the traps here. Good sign so early in the process.
There was a delay in receiving one of the reversal drugs, but all is good now. We armed traps as we baited today. Hoping for some success in the morning
