Alright, during rifle season, I had a nice buck come in... My gun was sighted into 100 yards, he was about 85, i fired and missed, fired again...and thought I saw him drop. Get out of stand, he's running tail up, for the tall and uncut. Skip to this past Sunday, same buck...comes in, at what I thought was 40 yards, I draw, settle the pin... Release..,clean miss. He looks around, and kinda walks off....skip to about 5 hours ago.... Same buck, 10 yards....yeah....10... I shoot high, he scampers a few yards and walks off...seemingly unalarmed. Other than my need to get ahold of my self when this big boy is in front me, what's my chances of seeing him again? First time I saw him was 8am, second was 4pm,nth is last time was literally right at dark.... Just nerves I guess, I've arrowed 2 deer this year so it's just with guy I keep missing. He's a real big 8.... Big for here anyway
My guess is he will come back a few more times to taunt you. R-E-L-A-X don't look at the antlers slow yourself down.
^^ This I shake like a little girl everytime I see a big deer walk in, all I do is focus on where I want to shoot. aim small, miss small!
Don't look at the antlers once you decide he is a shooter and I shoot daily 24/7/365 with my bow.. I try and shoot at least 10 arrows a day but usually more.. I do work from home so it is easier for me then most..
I try to only look at the antlers long enough to determine if a shooter. Once I know I want to shoot, don't look back at the antlers. Slowing yourself down mentally helps too. I try to always range the deer even if I know how far out it is. This check slows the whole process down for me.
3 strikes and your out, I would give him a pass this year. Just kidding Sounds like you are on him, just keep after it and mentally relax your mind next time you see him and breath.
Who knows, might never have an opportunity at a target buck all season, might get one, might get 6. The circumstances that u have mentioned are not probable, but anything is possible in the world of whitetail hunting.
