I just bought my first firearm- an h&r ultra slug hunter in 20g, 3".
It has a heavy, 24" rifled barrel. I put a Nikon pro staff shotgun slug variable power scope on it.
I'm just getting it sighted in and trying to figure out what sabots it likes best.
I'm looking forward to the extra range, but I'll be bowhunting our late shotgun & bow season too.

I love that stock , laminated stocks are way cool. Try lightfield ammo. I use that in my 12ga and am good to 125yds.

Real nice gun, when I started hunting ohio I used my muzzeloader but I recently purchased a slug gun, I wish I would have got an h & r. I went with a Rem 870 cantilevered, either way shoots great groups out to 125 yds. Mine liked the Rem accu tips and the Hornady Sst, still prefer the bow obviously, but fun when we're doing drives. Good luck.

We have a special hunt to try to lower the deer population density every year. I would love to use my bow, but sometimes in January it's too cold to trust my ability to draw, aim and shoot a bow.
I do think I can cock a hammer though!
I wasn't sure about the stock at first, but now I really into it. The only possible downside is the weight, 9 lbs, but it helps lessen the kick and keeps it steadier in the hand.

Have the exact same gun and love it. Hornady SST's and it'll be a tack driver in no time.

    Mine also likes Hornady SSTs.

I have the same slug gun, but I put an adjustable stock and pistol grip on it, so my 11 year old daughter could use it too. She killed her first deer with it this year. Hit right where she was aiming and the deer dropped in its tracks.

My buddy has the same gun and swears by it.

I myself shoot a Savage 220 and it likes the Remmington Accu Tips.

Wow! That's really awesome. It took me till I was 28 to shoot my first deer.
My fiancé just picked up 4 boxes of the hornady sst in 2 3/4, I also have Remington copper solids. Unfortunately, It rained all day today, so I didn't make it to the range, but I did scout a new property with a nice creek crossing.

Opening day of our special ( and only firearm) shotgun season starts tomorrow! I just set an awesome stand near a large bedding area, stealthily accessible by wading up a creek. I Can't wait, I'm gonna let this new 20g eat!

I have a question about this gun. Does it come with any open sights? Or is it designed just for use with a scope.

The H&R Ultra Slug Hunter does not have iron sights. It has a pic rail for mounting an optic.

Same here. I can pile up slugs at 100 yards. More accurate then the rifle. Shot my buck in IL with it last year at 120 yards. The Remington Copper Sabots however I don't care for.

I shot my best buck a few years ago at about 200 yards. I also dropped a doe out past 120 yards. Like any great gun good glass always helps as well.
