Had a great morning here in Kansas. The weather was awesome this morning with a nice fog and a little drizzle to set the tone for a great morning hunt. It was about 38 degrees or so when I climbed into my stand at 630. I was a little late but figured I should be ok. I waited and listened patiently in my stand for daylight to break so I could see out to the open field in front of me. I sat there thinking that today was going to be "the day." I was going to arrow a buck and life would be good haha. I know we all tell ourselves that before every sit as we should, but I just had a good feeling today. The weather setup right and the wilderness looked amazing. After sitting for an hour I decided to do a little rattling and grunting. I did a three to four minute segment and settled in and waited. About five minutes later I heard the familiar raking of antlers on tree limbs. I quickly grabbed my bow and waited patiently for the buck to make his way out where I could see him. Well after five minutes of nothingness, no more raking and no grunting, I set my bow back down and went back to waiting. Another five minutes passed and I noticed movement out of my left eye and looked that way. To my suprise this buck was working tree limbs and coming my way. Not sure if he was coming to check out the mock fight or just moving through but frankly I didnt care lol. I grabbed my bow and ranged him at 46 yards and coming right to me. I let him keep coming and he reached a scent trail that I had laid down and was 17 yards from me. I drew my bow when he gave me the chance and waited for him to turn left and come down the scent trail but what did he do? He started to go right and I had to make a quick decision so I chose to shoot him slightly quartering to me. I was able to sneak the arrow just behind the should and caught both lungs and the heart on the way through. He ran twenty yards and expired right next to the trail I could drive down. He is my biggest buck to date with a bow and biggest whitetail ever.
