I have several pictures of this buck taken over the last week. Do you guys think he was shot or gored?[IMG]

Doesn't look like a shot. Guessing he will be able to heal up from that.

I second this... took an arrow above the lungs, below the spine. Is that white spot part of the injury? Or is he a piebald or something?

^^ For the most part they are really close but there is a slight gap and the shoulder blade covers the top front of the lungs. Just looks to be a high shot to me, probably hit the shoulder blade and got only an inch or two of penetration and then broke off. Just because a lung gets clipped doesn't mean it deflates and they die, lungs can easily scar over and the deer lives on. Not sure what the white stuff is, unless its the start of infection/puss. If that shot was a few inches lower it probably would have been a nice lung shot. Either way, I hope he makes it.

Looks infected for sure. This deer needs to be shot. Maybe a bad shot, but hard to tell.

looks like he was shot recently:red blood not black, maybe his back leg is not working. Tough animals for sure. I watched a gut shot dow jump a fence and leave lots of his innerds inlcuding organs on the fence, still ran a long way after that...

To me it looks like it was shot with a small diameter broadhead, usually you see a gaping hole with the two blade expandables but that's just my guess

I've had more recent pictures of him. I'm pretty sure he will make it. My son killed a doe Sunday that had a broadhead in her.

Has anyone ever been cut by an old broadhead in a deer when cleaning it out? What added precautions do you take when cleaning out an animal?

That has been proven to be a myth. The lungs actually go above the spine in most places. If he was hit with an arrow he would have been hit in the lungs. I'd say he will live

Looks like a broadhead wound to me. I've seen one deer shot during gun season that had 70% of the arrow still in it just like that deer. The deer was so infected, the guy only got the rack. Processor was so worried the meat was tainted, he wouldn't butcher it.
