Alright serious question, I've seen a hit list buck running some power lines on my property, but there is no place to hang a stand. Is it a bad idea to bring my climber up one of the wooden poles that the wires run on? I wouldnt be close to the wires, and I would have decent cover. With the element of surprise, I think this is the only way to get a shot at this buck. Thanks for the input!

Have you thought about trying a blind? I have no experience with hunting a power pole but I don't think i would try it. A blind seems like a better idea to me. Just my opinion.

Try a blind, you will be super visibly up in a pole. Hunting on the ground can be tough but very fun, as some deer can get super close and not even know you're there. Or maybe try a tower blind if you have the resources.

I just got my climber this year but I would never climb those slippery things. Maybe I'm just a pansy though!

I believe it is ILLEGAL to ever put anything on a power line pole. Not the smartest idea for sure!

I have thought about hanging on a pole as well, but the way the lines run across our property I can hang a stand on either side of the wood line and just about shoot across it. I don't see where it would be dangerous as far as electrocution wise, because the lines are on giant insulators. However I'm not sure what the power company would say, it could be considered a form of trespassing...

    1. It is illegal.
    2. Making the pole sway back and forth causes the wires to sway. We are trained to climb the poles a certain way so they dont hit together and short out.
    3. You never know if one of the wires is about to break from tree contact that has broken some of the strands that are wrapped together. It happenes every day, I fix them.

There has to be a better option. It would probably work, but there has to be a better option.

I'm sure it's very tempting to climb that power line especially since it will probably increase the odds of bringing down that buck your after. I would not advise climbing it because of this >

One of the reasons we become better hunters is having to figure out ways around these situations. Even though you might possibly be able to climb it successfully it is still dangerous and illegal.

Report back on the how the conversation with the game warden goes. That is if you don't slip straight down the pole or get electrocuted first.... bad idea. :)

Listen to everyone else, no deer is worth your life. Make a blind or buy one and brush it in really good or maybe two for different winds and hunt em. I would not climb an electrical pole.

No Problem, I have just came across a lot of poles where some of the lines were loose and about to fall. Hate to see anyone get hurt.

I agree with the idea to put in a ground blind. I have high tension lines run across the property I hunt and have also wanted to hunt an overgrown area the lines cross. I plan to put in a blind to hunt that spot in the future.

Just like all the other Lineman on here have said. Leave the power pole climbing to us. The tower blind is a good idea.
Be safe out there and good luck.

Thought of building an elavated box blind? May be a little late for this season, but may be helpful for seasons to come. We have had great success hunting the clearings from the powerlines on our property.
