Well.. I got a call Sunday night that we wernt working on Monday (10/20) due to a purchase order not being signed soo I got to go hunting Monday morning which is usually never possible and was pumped up because the weather has been cooling down and the only mornings I have hunted have been Saturday's. I decided to hunt this new set for the first time, it's between an acorn flat on a ridge and a creek bottom and bedding area. I snuck in really early and thankfully didn't bump anything out. Well I sat until 8:15 and haven't seen anything. I decided to do a rattle session and followed it up with some grunts, just as I was hanging up my horns I looked to my right and here comes a buck charging off the ridge down to the creek bottom, I had so little time to evaluate him before I grabbed my bow and decided to shoot. All I knew was he was wide and had a BIG body. I stopped him at 15yds and settled the pin on him and let it eat. The shot was very steep because he was below me by the creek and I was closer to the ridge up the trail. After the shot he tore off 50 yds I watched him fall over get back up 2x then did the snow plow into some brush, I wasn't sure he was down, soo I gave him 2 hrs just to be safe. I knew that I got at least 1 lung and didnt want to bump him. Got down checked the arrow everything looked good, followed the blood and he was pouring, the slick tricks ate him up. He was wayyy dead, but I rather wait then Bump and loose a deer ( happened in the past). I'm pumped to get one down in PA now I can try my luck in Ohio. Good luck to everyone!
Thanks all, I have been running 8 cams since summer and never had a pic of this guy, just goes to show that you never know whats out there.
Congratulations on an awesome PA whitetail! Im still praying a hunt of mine turns out as good as yours. Glad to hear they are responding to calling with the pre rut kicking in
SW PA Westmoreland county, I'm fortunate to have access to roughly 100 acres I have been hunting and trying to manage for the past 10 years it's nice to see that passing all the smaller bucks is paying off. I was shocked when he came in that quick to ratteling this early, it's def heating up.
