So I just got to my stand and found a new scrape. Its about a 8"-10" circle. I've had my trailcam here and I've seen a hoss 10 point and some smaller deer. (Trailcam was in September) Does scrape size mean anything about buck size? I've also had my camera on some rubs 150 yards from this scrape and seen nothing on it .. However I did shoot a 9 point over them 2 weeks ago
I do not think iot does relate to size but more times visited and more built up testosterone in the buck. Also, more than one buck will hit the scrapes so it could be more bucks tearing it up. Some believe large scrapes are hub scrapes moer for breeding contact and the smaller scrapes are just when a brief urge hits the buck. I agree somewhat with that but also think a buck can start a scrape and stop if something distracts him or he decides to move along. These smaller scrapes never seem to be rehit in my area. 8 inch to 10 inch is a small scrape. Did you mean 8 Foot x 10 Foot ?
Yea it was only inches First one I've found on the property which I'm sure houses many more just need to find them!
What type of scrapes do you find that make 8 foot by 10 foot scrape look small. I don't think I've ever seen a scrape that big ever.
I have found no correlation between deer age or rack size and the size of the scrapes they make. Ive seen little bucks make both large and small scrapes and big bucks make large and small scrapes.
Scrape size does not determine size of the deer...I've seen scrapes 4' in diameter down to 12" just depends on how much its hit I would guess.
The larger scrapes I have found and put a camera on were like a communal scrape where a bunch of different bucks and does worked it. The only time I have noticed where you can tell a big buck is using a scrape is with a picture or by seeing a large track in the scrape.
