They must have had a really nice cape to use, but no antlers to go with it. Things that people do really should surprise me, but unfortunately it no longer does.
So now the guy(s) is in possession of a rack that is poached and off a farm at that. What exactly does he think he will do with it??
Surely they are insured, but I'm guessing finding another buck of that stature maybe more difficult to replace than you would think. Kinda like horses, they have to have the right pedigree for people to consider them as studs.
I would think it might be a good idea to cut the antlers off your breeding bucks once they shed their velvet. Get your pictures, vidoes and measurements then get rid of them. Lessen the temptation.
poachers suck, but so do these "deer farms" that grow these monsters then take top dollar to rich city hunters that are looking for nothing but a trophy or a show that needs to get a "monster buck" nothing more than high fence hunting. yeah yeah they have to make a living and blah, blah, blah but its "farms" like that which gives hunting a bad rep. so boo hoo, looks like a rich celebrity is not going to have a trophy to hang
I disagree. It isn't these things that give hunting a bad name, it is hunters not clarifying or educating people on the difference. It is property line crossers, wife tag using, poaching, baiting(when illegal) and other various things that give hunting a bad name. Farming deer isn't even in the Top 5 things in my opinion that give hunting a bad name....however the confusion it can cause for people not aware it isn't fair chase hunting even in the slightest is frustrating to say the least.
That's a shame. We had a high-fence place here in Missouri. Lucky them, they are the reason we have EHD in NE Missouri now. They have since gone out of business but left us a mess to clean up. Last I heard it is getting better up there. As far as the poaching part of it there is NO excuse for it.
All of the ones I know do but not because of this but because when the testosterone starts to build and they start sparring and fighting to avoid injuries.
i agree with all listed there and as hunters we know the difference but a majority of non-hunters and the anti-hunters do not that is why i said it gives hunting a bad name, and they are the ones that will do it unless they get educated like you mentioned
