Iv been told white tale buck poop clumps together and doe poop is small pebbles. Is this true or should I expect people to try tell me buck poop tastes different next to get another laugh out of me? Haha
Small, pelleted droppings indicate that they are on a "harder" diet. They are eating things like twigs and acorns. Large, smoother droppings indicate that the are on a "softer" diet. They are eating things like beans and alfalfa.
I can pull up 2 published studies that indicate that bucks poop tends to be clumped and that doe poop tends to be lose pellets
I have noticed clumped and lose while hunting but never pay attention to it, I hear buck poop taste like chicken, give it a try Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
^^^ this is spot on. Both bucks and does can have clumped or loose droppings. In the late spring and summer, you will see more clumping due to the high consumption of green leafy forage with a high moisture content. Fall and winter droppings (for the most part) tend to be drier and more like pellets. This is because a deers diet is higher in woody browse and hard grains at this time of year. Several studies have been published on this. The best one i can think of was published in North American Hunter magazine about 10 years ago....i think it was called "the science of scat" or something like that. It did however bring out that big poop usually means a big deer. IE if the pellets look like cat litter... Probably not a big deer, on the other hand if the pellets look like those huge nasty jelly beans from the grocery store 50cent section.....good chance it's a big deer
I think we are referring of the same study. They pointed out that the average deer scat had like 70 pellets, but bigger bucks were up around 90. So, if you're into counting deer scat, it could put you at an advantage...
I will go thru my books and provide the information this evening. I can give out rough info now. The deer hunters bible for 1 and Dr. Ken Nordberg whitetail almanac series for another, also a University of Wisconsin study. I guess that would be three but like I said I will provide complete information
Is there a way I can learn to tell what gender sputtered out diarrhea??? That's the real question here.
