We have been fearing that we have wolves in our area, today I think they came true. I got three pictures of what appears to be two wolves and possibly a cub? I hope they pass through but we have a lot of deer in our area and a lot of fawns... Im pretty bummed right now..

Pup. Cubs are for bears. I am bummed to man. This sucks.

One of our friends dog was killed by wolves between our house and this land (22 miles apart) a month or so ago. We knew it was gonna happen, but that doesnt make it any more palatable.

Someone, quick, tell us those are coyotes....please?

Looks like canis lupus to me.

As a side note, I'll take wolves over EHD & CWD any day.

Well if Fitz says its a wolf... I just wish they would open the wolf hunting up down here. There's nothing we can do now...

You are right though Wolves aren't as bad as cwd or ehd. I'm hoping they don't stay permanent and stay low in populations..

Hard to tell sex from the pics, unless you catch them taking a leak. One is definitely young. Looks really scrawny.

    Defiantly wolf ;(

They are not considered a nuisance species like hogs in Florida so you just can't eliminate them?

Think of it this way. The deer get hunted all year round now. All the dumb/weak/bad genetics get culled out pretty quick. You are left with slightly harder deer to hunt but the caliber will be better.

On the one hand, it has some potential to cause issues with dogs and lower deer numbers. On the other hand you get to see some of the most iconic animals in North America. I would probably still crap my pants if I came across one while walking to my stand, but since there isn't anything you can do about it you might as well look at the silver lining. How far north of the metro are you again?

no they used to be protected but now there is a season on them, but not in our area. They are not considered a nuisance though so no we cannot eliminate them.

I would say 2 hours from Maple Grove. NW of the cities towards Fargo.

I respectfully disagree on the iconic part. They look like a German Shepard. Saw them in Yellowstone and they didnt do much for me or the kids. Looked like a bunch of dogs running around. There are soooo many of them now they are nothing special. To each his own on that one I guess. I am trying to think of any animal I would classify as iconic. Maybe a Lower 48 Griz outside Yellowstone/Glacier.
