It took me five long years to harvest my first archery deer. How long did it take you?

    Notice the Treebark camo? :)

I started bow hunting in 2012. I sat opening morning and didn't see anything. I sat again that Saturday morning and didn't see anything. I harvested a doe when I went back out that Saturday evening.

I was pretty proud, especially after a 'friend' told me I'd never shoot a deer with a bow unless I spent the spring/summer going to 3D shoots with him.

    Little less than a month.

Didn't hunt a day in a tree my first year (2013)... Hunted out of natural ground blinds. Ended up taking a 125lb doe on 10/13/2013.

    3rd season.

I did have opportunities at buttons/spikes previously but let them all walk.

    Congrats on your quick success!

I guess I pretty much stunk as a bow hunter back in the 70's cause I went through a lot of misses and getting busted before my success came... Of course the gear back then wasn't the best in the world, and deer were not as plentiful then as today...

It took me a little over 3 weeks during my first season before I harvested a 7 point at the very beginning of the pre rut. Haven't looked back since!

A season, I went with dad when I was 7 years old and shot a doe at the end of that season (1982). Went by myself starting the next year...well I went with dad but sat in my own tree stand. Shot my first buck that year...little 8 point.

Took me two years started in about 2007 missed a huge buck that now a days id kill so easy and missed another buck the following year with gun. Seen plenty of does them two years but my dad got me strictly just wanting to shoot a buck so i passed up doe. Finaly the third year got in the stand opening day and shot a 60-70 lb doe lol. but i was glad i got it it was my first deer because it was small and i could do it all myself and i gutted it with no one to show me, i tagged it by myself when you couldnt call it in, and i hung it myself. So i thought it was awsome i did it all by myself. It was a really acheiving first deer for me. Still wish i would have got that 160+amd 120+ tho lol.

I was able to take a doe my second year of bow hunting. I actually shot a small buck my first season but we were unable to retrieve it because it ran onto property we didn't have permission for.

I purchased my first bow the summer of 2012, practiced all summer, and harvested my first deer in that 2012-2013 season. It would probably not have been possible if I had not had 40 years of deer gun hunting experience prior to that.

I will probably never gun hunt for whitetails again.

I bought my first bow at the end of 2009 hunting season... My second morning out in 2010 a doe popped out at 30yds and i dropped her on the spot... 5 mins after i shot her a 5-point buck came out of the same trail and was looking down at her so i drew again (while shaking like crazy) and skinned his back, he ran down a hill towards me through thick brush and next thing i knew he was standing 15yds from my tree and i smoked him, he ran about 75yds.... I couldnt believe what had just happened and i almost fell out of my climber bc i was so excited lol.. Ive gun hunted my whole life so i knew how special it was to get a deer (let alone an decent buck AND a doe) while being so green to the sport...
