Hey guys was wanting to see if any of you guys have any tricks. Few of the spots I hunt I have to walk through a farm field to get to my spot. My boots always get covered in mud then I spend time scraping them off before I get in stand. Is there anyway I can put something over the boots while I'm walking that won't make a lot of noise?

That depends on entirely what kind of boots you are wearing. You could buy some of the low cut Galoshes that will slip over your boots. Take them off when you get to your stand and you are done. I don't personally spend a lot of time knocking the mud off. The climb usually takes care of most of it. At the same time I could see it being a safety issue.

Maybe I don't understand. Why are you worried about mud on your boots when climbing into a stand? If anything, a good coating of mud is going to give a good cover scent.

That would be awesome to use. I'm wearing lacrosse aerohead.

Last year it was pretty muddy a lot of days for me. It wasn't the climbing part for me, it was the mud drying and then falling through the stand and hitting leaves below and making quite a bit of noise.

Yes I agree, that would be my concern. Otherwise I figure its a cover scent.

I would imagine covering your climbing sticks in mud doesn't make for ideal climbing conditions either. But those slip overs that fitz posted looked good, unless they would stick in the mud when you are walking causing them to pull off.

I laugh at the term cover scent in the hunting industry. People still think you can cover up human scent with other scents?

OK I can see that. I guess. Can't say I've had that problem and I walk thru a lot of mud some days.

Sure you can. Practice a full scent reduction program, throw some fox urine on your hunting clothes, and you smell like a fox's bathroom. I laugh when people cant figure out how to reduce their scent at all and then chalk it up to being a myth. Meanwhile other are shooting mature bucks 20 yards dead downwind every year.

Giant bucks were killed years ago with little to no camo, traditional bow, and certainly no scent reduction program...

You don't need a "scent reduction program" if you play/hunt the wind.

This is even more laughable. A mature buck that's not spooked and is "dead downwind" is simply not in your scent stream, period. Learn air currents, you might learn something.

This is exactly why! You make a move and all the mud falls from the stand. I try to find a tree where I can rub the mud off, but I never get it all off. Would just like a cover to put on em that would eliminate that
