I drew my first ever Bull Elk tag for Nevada. I will be hunting north of Elko. The season starts August 16. I have never hunted Elk before and was wondering if anybody could give me some information on what their habits and patterns will be like at that time of year. I'm not asking for peoples hunting spots, just information about the characteristics of the animals. Thanks.

What area did you draw? I hunted in 6 last year and saw some nice bulls

I'm not sure about up there. I was in 062 last year. But I've heard good things about the Bull Run Mountains just east of Owyhee.

I was listening to a podcast the other day and they were talking about Elk101, a legitimate online course put together by elk hunters. Seemed like it could be extremely valuable. They are running a special right now for $40 off, coupon code was gritty40 I think. If I was holding an elk tag or planning on elk hunting as a non elk Hunter I would be eating that up! Only like $60 for a ton of knowledge.

What DT said is a great place to start. Elk101.com | Dedicated to Elk Hunting Information, Archery Elk Hunting | Elk Hunting Videos | Elk Hunting Forum has an incredible amount of resources there and will give you a great foundation. Get out there too. You will learn a lot more by being out there, boots on the ground as they say, as well as researching on line. Once you get "your feet wet" start asking some more specific questions and there are plenty of guys on here that have a boatload of info they would be glad to share and help you to have an amazing adventure.

By the way, congratulations on drawing such a great tag!

    Good luck.
