Yeah you read it right. I work with several of these folks and it pains me to see the efforts they go to pass the time of day and escape anything that resembles work. They come to work for one reason only - to draw a paycheck while avoiding getting fired for pissing away the day. Why do so many people no longer take any pride in their work, or have a passion to do the best job they can no matter the task?
I can't stand working with the people who usually clock in last and leave first and then complain all day about their heavy workload..maybe you should work a little longer than 7 hours!
Hooter--- If I had work to do I would be busy getting it done with a smile on my face ! Like you I am great at time management and excel at what I do!
I work from home so I don't have to see that kind of thing anymore. As long as it does not somehow affect my work or my career path i don't give a **** what another guy/girl chooses to do. But if what they are doing somehow has a chance to screw me over in the end you can bet it will be brought up and dealt with.
I've worked with plenty of them. The ones that get me are the ones that will work harder at getting out of work than the work would actually take. I'll be honest, I get to work on time and I leave on time, rarely do I come in early or leave late. While I'm at work, I get my work done as needed and I'm in the top tier of the group in all measurable metrics. I've worked jobs where the company abused us and expected us to work for free or minimal compensation after our 40 hours was up. I'll never do it again. If I'm being paid for 40 hours worth of work, I'll give it but my time is also valuable to me.
I guess I could be classified as a clock sucker... I work in an office and a large part of my day I browse the internet and forums. I get all of my work done and ask my boss/co workers what I can help them with, if they have nothing for me, then theres really nothing I can do.
I would disagree-- You are an efficient employee.. There is big difference from someone that goes out of their way to avoid work or does the work so poorly that it has to be redone by someone else.
Well then I guess I'm not talking about your work ethic lol I think its relatively tiring to work a "FULL" 8 hours so I catch myself browsing the net often.
Well now --- I am salaried and don't get paid by the hour I have X amount of work to do each day-- then fight fires for the rest of the day.. No fires going on I surf till the next one starts..
I just have to put in 40 hours. If my clients would let me work 3 -12 hours and a half day on Thursday, I could work that, but I kinda have to work the hours my clients work.
I have to many guys that are like that at my job. At first it annoyed and pissed me off, but I stopped caring. I'm not the one that has to pay them, plus their laziness makes me look like an extra hard worker haha
It varies for me... Some days are 7-3, 8-4, or 9-5. Doesn't really matter, as long as I'm here during the day and work my 40 hours.
6am - 3 PM M-F --- Leaves me time to bow hunt after work in the early season! 1 Sunday every 3 months
Any organization is basically a team. Each member of the team doing their particular job/function that helps complete the process/product that is sold. If one team member doesn't produce then someone has to take up the slack to complete the process. That usually costs money in additional wages, or lost production opportunity. That is how "getting out of work" affects everyone on the team. That is what aggravates me about someone not putting forth the effort they are being paid to do. It affects everyone on the teams ability to get the job done in the most efficient manner and thereby possibly causing competitive disadvantages in the market place that could affect job security for the organization. Since I am in management I have had the unfortunate opportunity to deal with people unwilling to do their jobs as they are being paid to. Just my .02
We have a core set of hours at work that we have to show up by and at least work until, which is 9-4. Everyone has a set of objectives and what matters is meeting those objectives, if you do more then you get rated higher on your annual evaluation and therefore a bigger bonus potential. But there's people on my team (myself included) who don't have to work like a horny jackrabbit to get things done. What some people need a full day to work on, many of us can get it done in just a few hours. If we want to pace ourselves we can, if we want to get our stuff done and then take a little break we can. As long as we meet objectives it's up to us if we want to exceed or not. It really helps on a day to day basis when things are stressful or work/life balance isn't there.
