Looks like Wisconsin legislators are going to fast track a right to work (RTW) bill this week. Are you for RTW or against it? For those of you that live in RTW states how has it turned out?
I think that it makes the business environment friendlier for investment and job creation. There is a lot of misinformation concerning RTW laws and what the legalities are. I think they are a good thing and gives individual workers choices that they otherwise wouldn't have.
They very much still exist! You just have the right to not join, which IMO is they way it should be... I should have a choice. Both my wife and I work in jobs that have unions. I in aerospace and her USPS. The unions are alive and well should you wish to be a part of them.
GA is an at will state, so basically they can hire or fire you you for no reason... We also have unions but you can not be forced to join if you choose not to.
I think the RTW is a good thing. I'm also very fortunate that with my State job the Department I work for does not have a union that has infiltrated the civilian ranks. I also have the opinion that most of the time Unions have outlived their usefulness. Oly
NC resident and to be honest its not someting that would ever be an issue in my line of work. I will say as the least unionized state in the country there seem to be no shortage of business that is always relocating to the area. Not low paying jobs either, corporate middle class jobs. Shouldn't a worker have the right or not to organize of their own free will. Its not 1885 anymore with the company store and brutal work conditions. If you don't like the job move on. Or call the local news or get a whistleblower settlement if the conditions are that horrific.
Missouri is not right to work yet, but pretty much every state surrounding us is besides the socialist republic of Chicago and surrounding areas(also known as Illinois). Those other states seem to be managing just fine without their workers being forced into paying union dues. I think union membership should be voluntary. Being required to join a union and pay dues to keep your job just seems un-American to me.
Our new Gov. here in IL is pushing for RTW. All of my family and friends in unions are having a fit. They are painting a picture of doom and gloom. They say wages will go down and the employee will suffer in the long run. Do you believe this to be true? I am not in a union and really haven't formed an opinion on it.
No that's ok I don't need to know that bad. Most of them are so worked up about this if I were to ask questions like that it would be more trouble and headache then its worth. As far as I am concerned if its something that would make the state better as a whole then I am for it. Illinois is so screwed up right now it is going to take some serious work to get us going in the right direction again.
IMO with all of the labor laws on the books you really don't need a union. Yeah there is higher pay with a union but the market will figure that out in the long run so basically we do not need a union in this day and age. Unions are just another way to get money donated to the democrat's and they act like mob bosses. If you are an employee it should be to your desecration if you want to part of it or not. With all the talk about redistributing the wealth in this country and the Dems being in the union pockets it seems a bit hypocritical.
I don't think it will change much in the real world. I do however think that it is fundamentally the right thing to do. People should have the right to decline a union if they have a right to join one.
RTW should be a two way street the union by law must take a greviance and /or represent any employe at a location that they have a agreement. Member or not. Most of the evidence shows a organized/unionized job pays more than a non union job In the same sector of work.If you work at a union shop you should pay your fair share.
ND is a RTW state and employees where I work can join or choose not to. Myself, I choose not to. Anytime there is a fuss over anything I wonder who answers to who. Does the union answer to the members or the members answer to the union. Hard to tell most times.
