Sad day indeed. Never met him but I was lucky enough to meet his father and Shane a couple times.
They are in a league of their own as whitetail hunters.

    Condolences to his family.

That really is sad news. Are there any specifics? He wasn't that old. Few hunters go after a buck like the original Benoits did! A true deer hunting family.

I remember reading about them in Field and Stream as a youth. Maine right?

Vermont. I've never met him, but would have loved to. I've followed them for awhile, and only hope to be as half as good of a woodsman as he was.

The hunt in hill country and pick up a track and stalk that deer down right?

I think most of their stories appeared in Sports Afield back in the day. I'd guess some were in F&S as well. The Benoits hunted New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Main, and Mass. Mostly Main and Vermont though. Here's a funny story.

Back in 1973 I bought an original signed (by Larry) edition of "How To Bag The Biggest Buck Of Your Life". I had this book for like 42 years. Honestly. After researching a bit, I came to realize a signed original copy was worth some serious cash. This was even before Larry died. I had seen one copy sell for $600 (I think it was) on e-bay, and heard of another one going for like $900!

So, a while back I sell my book to a neighbor who knows it's unique value. I think I got $500. Some time goes by, and he sees me and tells me that his wife hit the roof when she found out (he didn't say how) he bought the book. He begged me to buy it back so he could live another day. lol I bought it back. It really is a part of the north woods hunting heritage.

Oh man that sucks! These were some of the hardest and smartest hunters in the north east. Its a shame they he had to go. I think I should go out and get a copy of their books.

He and his father and his brothers are true deer hunting legends. A huge name especially here in the northeast. He passed from a heart attack while sleeping. Rest in peace to another Benoit legend.
