How many times have you heard this while you are walking back to your vehicle in the dark? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVbI698Gk1o
Meh...
Yotes don't bother me but the pack of fisher cats in PA who stalked dogs and children as they slept in tents did. I went 100 yards into the pitch black woods with a pistol going after those foul beasts.
No fair Fitz. I guess i should have directed this to the southern folks who don't have to deal with wolves lol.
The first time I heard wolves while walking from a stand after dark I felt chills, now I am used to it.
Saturday morning I snuck halfway up a ridge in the dark. Got settled and waited for sunrise. As it starts to get light, I hear rocks clatter behind me. I turn and there, ten yards away is grey shape. In a split second it leaps up the hillside and out of sight. Steep + sagebrush + junipers = poor visibility behind me. I'm pretty sure it was just a coyote. But there are lions, bobcats and bears in these hills too. Makes hunting that much more fun. :D
I hear and see coyotes and Timberwolves sometimes while hunting but the only time it really creeped me out was one morning while it was still dark I was crossing a hay field going to my stand, a pack of coyotes that was standing in the edge of the field started to howl, then another pack on the other side started, with me directly in the middle. I don't think I ever walked so fast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fitz what do you do when you hear wolves before your gonna climb down at night? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Try sneaking into thick alders after a coastal brown bear with nothing but a video camera in your hands as your buddy carries his bow... only for it to get too dark to see well and have to then go back through same alders not sure where the bear is...haha Coyotes howls are pretty awesome. Tons out here in Montana and listening to them light up around dark is one of the best parts of the walk out of the field.
Not afraid of the dark. But some things just get those hairs on the back of your neck raised up no matter what.
Hit record if I can. Otherwise, I just walk out. The night of that video they were less than 100 yards away. I wasn't nearly as quiet as I would normally be walking out. Now a moose will keep me in my stand for another 45 min or hour. I have no desire to get my *** trampled.
Yeah I would be more concerned about a moose vs coyote or wolf or bear, cow moose are just plain bossy and mean
The howels don't bother me. We had wolves moving in on our hunting camp a few weeks ago because the dog kept barking at them. Finally had to yell at them and they moved on.
