I've been watching vids on youtube about how to make them for about a year and a half, equipment, etc... I've really been thinking seriously about getting into it when I build a new shop. Was thinking of building a forge portion into the shed and equipping it out big time. Looks like a very very cool hobby and I love knives, metal working, wood working and art. Most intrigued by damascus steel and blades. I think they are the coolest looking things in the metal working world. Sorry for the dream-scape, I know this doesn't help you out any right now,
Will do. Check out this guys youtube channel and vids. He makes some of the coolest stuff and videos about it that I've seen. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkLxJCuQZ4hStBfs8TCnT9Q
Oh yeah, people use all sorts of stuff, lawn mower blades, files, leaf springs, etc.... One guy on youtube makes knives out of rail road spikes, some of them are pretty cool looking. I think it's fascinating to see people get creative and make stuff. I've seen several people make mycarta and also sheaths out of plastic...incredible what people can do with their imagination.
John... you have an outstanding knife maker right in your backyard. I have been to his shop and actually purchased a sheath from his [then] wife. Great guy. If you go, let me know... I'll tag along with you. Neilson's Mountain Hollow - Custom Knives by J. Neilson
