Just got back from the ER and apparently I suffered the aforementioned injury in a wrestling match. Going to the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to figure out the severity. ER doctor believes I will most likely need surgery. 1) will this end my wrestling,swimming, lacrosse career? 2) what will the recovery time be like either with or without surgery? 3) how long till I can shoot again? Sorry, no idea on answering your questions, I just stopped in to say get well soon and sorry to hear about the injury. Hope it heals in time for some season yet but if not I just hope it heals completely, period.
My wife says she doesn't understand why a AC joint dislocation would need surgery unless you tore your labrum or some of the soft tissue. Generally it doesn't require surgery. Depending on the severity, but without surgery, 4 to 8 weeks. Assuming you get therapy. Hard to say if it requires surgery since that most lost likely means more damage than just a dislocation. Good luck, hopefully it won't be too serious.
I think that it will be prone to dislocate again if you go the no surgery route. Like SW said, the key is if the labrum or anything else is torn. You've had a rough year!

Your physician would be the one to answer your questions I think. You have my sympathies. Hope you have a quick and complete recovery.

If you are going to keep wrestling this will be an injury you will want to monitor the rest of the season.
Glad ortho changed that outcome greatly. Sometimes you just need to wait for the specialist. ER (around here anyways) just push you out the door with the worst case scenario. Did they say if this will be recurrent?
